Great post by +Tina Willis about debunking Tort Reform myths. Citing stats from the American Association for Justice, +Tina Willis notes that, contrary to the spin from the insurance industry and others, new lawsuit filings dropped 25% over a 10-year period. Thanks for sharing this important information.

Tort Reform Social Media Challenge: Day 3 (Ish)

We are trying to get some momentum going to share something on social media about tort reform myths / truths every day for the next (roughly) 30 days.

Today's Debunked Myth: The number of lawsuits filed is skyrocketing.

Truth

The number of tort (personal injury) cases has been declining for years. According to the National Center for State Courts, tort cases accounted for just 4.4 percent of all civil cases filed in 2008, and declined by 25 percent between 1999 and 2008. Tort filings in state courts decreased by six percent between 2007 and 2008.

Would you like to find an interesting myth / truth / fact to share about tort reform this month?  If so, please check this link to find more:

What do you think about the FMCSA’s new idea for weeding out dangerous trucking companies before they open – and, thus, before they can put trucks on the road?

Great post by +Christopher Davis about the safety benefits of "backup cameras." Excellent news about NHTSA's plan: In March, NHTSA announced it would "implement a mandate that requires most new cars, SUVs and minivans in the country to have backup cameras installed by the year 2018." Thanks for sharing this important information.

As an attorney, I’ve had the pleasure of working on many serious truck accident cases with attorneys from across the nation. But Michael Leizerman is special. He is considered one of the best truck attorneys in the country. I’ve been very fortunate to be able to learn from him and work with him on many cases together. I have always been impressed by his love of learning. He teaches advanced advocacy concepts to lawyers, and his three volume treatise on "Litigating Truck Accident Cases" is the seminal work in commercial motor vehicle litigation that every serious attorney has on his desk. Michael is also unusual because he truly cares about the people he chooses to help, and he genuinely cares. His knowledge and compassion continue to impress me. In short, he is a fantastic lawyer.

I’ve known and worked with Ken for several years and now he’s become a close friend. Ken is trustworthy, compassionate and a strong advocate for his clients. He also specializes in children who are injured due to others negligence. Ken is one of only a small handful of attorneys in the in the U.S. who I trust to work with as a trial consultant on my own cases, and he is a brilliant lawyer. He is also one of only a small handful of attorneys in the entire U.S. who focuses on child injury cases. Ken is warm and friendly, but he’s also fantastic in the courtroom and incredibly tenacious when he works on settlements for his clients. I have called on Ken many times because I know he can best help. When I have a major trial coming, I often work with Ken on themes, strategy, and even with psychodrama preparation for my key witnesses or my clients. In short, it is very rare to have a lawyer like Ken who is not only at the very top of specialty and who has tremendous technical expertise, but who is also just a wonderful human being. Someone who is truly in need of top-notch help would count themselves very fortunate to have Ken as his or her lawyer.
