Instead of spending multiple days going over safety rules that students are already familiar with I like to introduce safety rules with a game or team-building activity focused on safety rules.  This gives me information about what my students know (or don't know) and then I can plan my instruction to reflect their level of learning.  I also like to reinforce safety rules throughout the year as we do a lab that touches on an important safety rule.  When the rules are discussed in context for a particular lab they have more meaning for students.
