A reminder of The Forgotten War, the veterans who served, and why their names should be recorded for posterity. An armistice agreement was signed 60 years ago, today.

Suddenly, after reading rave reviews, I find myself with no tickets, and on the wrong continent. Sigh.

This was my favorite band in the early 80s...  And Brian Eno and a few others.  My neighbors in the cube farm at DEC thought I was weird.  Ah those were the days...

Maverick's, explained. Some amazing big wave pictures too!
KQED SCIENCE originally shared:

"In this amazing feature, Surfline, a fantastic surf forecasting service, delivers the science behind a truly awesome break to behold. They do a wonderful job explaining the geology, wave force and period, tides and peculiarities that come together to give us Maverick's." (via +Boing Boing)

And to learn more, here's the Science of Big Waves - KQED QUEST story featuring renowned surfer Grant Washburn.

Road report from Montebello Road: It just got some patching in the last few weeks - luxurious for a dead end road which was already in fine shape to me. But I never go near 30 mph downhill in the best of conditions.

Tasty pizzas and calzones, plus a nice selection of local beer. Nicely made crust and nicely balanced--not too much sauce, cheese, or dough. Kid and veg friendly, too. A great casual place to tank up after a big day in Zion park.

Steve TenBroeck and Jeff Stricker exceeded our expectations as both buying and selling agents. My wife and I worked primarily with Steve to buy our house in 2010. Whereas other agents seemed interested in simply finding us a house that we liked, Steve educated us about how various features of the house and its location affected value, which problems with each house were remediable and roughly how much the fixes would cost, and whether it would be cost-effective to make modifications to a property vs. just holding out for one that came with the features wanted. He was very patient with us through our seven-month house hunt and even dissuaded us from bidding on one house. We're glad we held out for the one we're in now. When it came time to sell our old house early in 2011, we contracted with both Jeff and Steve. They handled everything involved in fixing up the house, from advising us on the improvements to make and bidding out the jobs to supervising the contractors. We sold the house with multiple offers at substantially over the (already competitive) asking price. If we ever decide to sell the house we're in, we'll be sure to work with Jeff and Steve.

Great kids program; our son worked his way up to butterfly. Consistently good instructors and responsive staff. The pool is warm, and covered during winter. The little shop is handy for buying swim gear and a snack.

Great park with outstanding views and lots of options for hikes of different lengths. I loved the White Rock loop (clockwise). Carry water!
