Summer is a great time to get your kids, and yourself, ready for the new school year. There's so much that can be done in advance of showing up on the first day to alleviate at least some of the fears of what's to come.

Creating a one page summary of who your child is, what they need and how they learn best is a great asset to provide your child's teacher at the start of each school year (Do not change a placement of inclusion because someone at the school says they don't have support - advocate for the support to be given). Utilize your time during the summer to get your thoughts together and have it prepared to send to the teacher as soon as you know who that will be. - Preferably before Day One.

Parents need to stay on top of their child’s educational progression to ensure they’re getting all that they can out of school. Learning about language and transition evaluations, how to conduct observations and prepare for IEP meetings are all covered in this edition. There is no greater advocate for a child than a parent who is armed with knowledge. So, talk to others, get into your school, and forge those relationships that will encourage better tomorrows for your child today. http://virtualpublications.soloprinting.com/publication/?i=363440&pre=1
