'Women's equality hot topic at forthcoming Chamber Conference'

The topic of gender pay gap, which has been in the news increasingly over the last few months, is one which isn't about to get brushed under the carpet again anytime time soon.

With latest reports stating that the 19.2% gap between men's and women's pay having barely improved in the past four years despite the Governments pledge to eradicate it within a generation, the Women & Equalities Committee are pushing further for the Government to make all jobs flexible and introduce an industrial strategy for low-paid women's jobs and to act on its pledge to close the gender pay gap.

A report due to be published by the Committee states that the gap for full and part-time workers means on average a woman earns about 80p for every £1 earned by a man. 'Unless the Government pushes employers into action, women will fail to fulfil their potential, denying the economy of skills at a cost of £36bn'; states the report.

This will be just one of the topics at Lancaster Chamber's Women in Business Conference this Spring. The event, on Wednesday 18th May at the Globe Arena, Morecambe, will highlight some of the key issues surrounding women and equality and the impact gender pay gap is having on women reaching their goals. Guest speaker Melanie Sensicle, Programme Delivery Director, Northern Tourism Growth Fund at Visit England will also speak on the importance of women reaching the top of their career ladder and share her own industry experiences.

Mixed with presentations on achieving a work-life balance, employment law and networking, this event will help women address key issues in their careers and provide useful advice and tips to reach the top.
