Addictive social networks as an evolutionary fitness function. Not getting addicted improves your odds of survival, leading to a society where the successful people are blind to notification balloons. Which is used by the underdog protagonist to escape detection at a critical juncture in the story. The underground resistance speaks in clickbait because it's automatically filtered out by the ruling class brains.

Himawari-8 shots. This is amazing on a big 4k screen. Now who's gonna set up a realtime video stream from the orbit?

I want to get up to speed on how to build web apps with today's tech. Like, how would I implement Google Search or Facebook or Pinterest with the latest hotness?

(Says he after thinking that my cool 2008 web apps are like cool 1998 web apps in 2008.)

Australia, 10 minutes ago, from https://himawari8.nict.go.jp

This is a crop of a high-resolution photograph taken every 10 minutes by a camera flying 36 000 km above the Earth.

If you look at the horizon on the Himawari site, you can see how thin the atmosphere is. And how close to the ground the clouds are flying. Basically how you should think of it is that you've got a very smooth ball and on it there's some blue paint, some earth-tone paint, and some white flecks of paint.

Even if you could see the entire crust of the Earth, it'd only go up a fifth of the width of the atmosphere. The world we live in is very flat.

BTW, the existence of this image means that we can A) take high-resolution photos B) fly the camera into space C) get the image back to Earth in 10 minutes D) send it to anyone who wants to see it in a second or two.

17 GB backup over the internet looked like it completed in 3 minutes. After doing some calculations... it probably did.

That feeling of wanting to go to Hampstead Heath for a Sunday walk but being 9600 km away. Waiting for an Overground extension.

The Great British Civil War of 2014-2019. Five years of endless Brexit has worn the nation thin, pitching brother against brother on Facebook and Twitter. Prolonged trench warfare waged by newspapers, foreign armies of irregulars pitching in to support their side in the conflict. War funds being sent to support militias, fortunes being made by looters.
