Wow - talk about performing under pressure! I sure hope her career really takes off after such an amazing opportunity.

I've been sharing a lot of photos from our family trip to Dubai over the 2017 Christmas & New Years holidays for the last several weeks. If you'd like to see a gallery of all the photos that I've finished so far, here it is.

For kicks and giggles, see if you can tell which were taken with my iPhone 8 Plus camera and which were taken with my "real" Sony a7Rii cameras. Some of them are obvious, but some of them surprised even me.

Somehow, this was part of the entrance to the “Americas” Pavilion at Global Village, Dubai. Each pavilion is an area of the park that is rented by a nation or group of nations. The Americas section apparently was taken by one or more nations south of Texas. It seemed to be predominantly Mexico. There was nothing from North America at all, neither the IS nor Canada, so I’m not sure why it wasn’t just called “Mexico.” Oh well. These two faces towered over us, with the top of the chief’s headdress at least 8 stories up.

If Global Village, Dubai were instead found in almost any other country outside the Middle East, you probably wouldn’t see this kind of thing written on such huge screens. 🤨

Interesting but not terribly surprising. While the scientific method is still the only reliable method that we have for determining how the world works, it is equally true that science is performed by flawed humans. Scientists, and the lay public reading about research, must be careful to not automatically assume everything is true or correct, but look for additional verification and attempts to both replicate and disprove.

“There are many factors as to why the same experiment might produce two different sets of results - but a new review confirms that the experimenter's gender could play an important role. The researchers behind the review think that these biases could skew the results of clinical trials and misrepresent how well medications work. The authors suggest some policies, such as new kinds of reporting and experimental controls, that they hope will help the problem in the future.”

A portion of the gateway into the Pakistani area in the Global Village, Dubai. #globalvillagedubai #skylumsoftware #aurorahdrpro

Sony a7Rii + Sony FE 16-35mm f/4
Processed in Lightroom and Aurora HDR Pro, as it seemed perfectly suited as a HDR.

Truly, Global Village is stunningly beautiful when lit up at night. The colors rotate every 5-10 seconds, too. It’s a photographers paradise! #globalvillage #dubai
