Tax Tip: Did you miss the April 17th deadline to file your 2017 1040 return? If so, you're in luck! Taxpayers with an IRS liability outstanding for 2017 can avoid a penalty, typically equal to $210 (or 100% of the tax owed-whichever is less), if they file their return no later than June 14th. If you owe and haven't filed, you will already be subject to a failure to file penalty that accrues 5% each month. The additional $210 is charged if the filing is over 60 days late, which this year falls on June 14th.

It is always better to file and owe than to not file at all so if that kept you from filing on time this year, don't worry. But do get your tax return filed before the deadline next week!
