Thanks Fons,

Great circle!
I haven't really been on G+ since I've been back on this side of the GFW (plus I've been flat out with the Australia-China Youth Dialogue which is now finished), so I'm glad to still be included here. Will aim to start sharing content here again shortly.

Applications for Australian delegates are now closed, but there's still two weeks for Chinese delegate applications. The Australia-China Youth Dialogue is the premier forum for annual bilateral youth driven diplomacy. The 2012 ACYD will be in Beijing and Chengdu from 19-24 October. 15 Australians and 15 Chinese aged 18-35 who are selected from an incredibly high calibre pool of applicants will spend 6 days with over 50 distinguished experts in a series of intense discussions, debates, dialogues, simulations and revelry on issues as diverse as economics, arts, geopolitics and international relations, biodiversity and local environmental issues, China's government reforms, civil society, philosophy and the rule of law.

ACYD is organised with the Chinese University Media Union (All-China Youth Federation) and supported by the Australia-China Council of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australia-China Business Council, Rio Tinto, ANZ, Qantas and Capital M.

This is not to be missed. If you know any talented young Chinese who may like to apply, encourage them to check out the website: www.acyd.org.au

Applications to attend the 2012 Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) in Beijing and Chengdu are now open!

ACYD is a bilateral young leaders dialogue held annually, alternately between Australia and China. This year the Dialogue returns to China and will be held in Beijing and Chengdu between 19-24 October.

The Dialogue selects 15 Australian and 15 Chinese delegates aged 18-35 to participate in an intensive, five-day curriculum designed to challenge their existing conceptions on important issues facing Australia China. Being the 40th anniversary of Australia-China diplomatic relations this year, the theme of the dialogue is, "At 40 there are no doubts: next steps in Australia-China relations"

Further information, including how to apply is available at: http://acyd.org.au/

Luke Hurst and Peter Drysdale's Australian Financial Review article discussing African mining opportunities (driven in large part by China) is in this week's East Asia Forum.

The US Chamber of Commerce in China also has a great podcast that gives an overview of Burma's democratic transformation. The interview is absolutely compelling. Anyone with an interest in Asia should absolutely listen to this.

This is very cool. Watch it if you feel like getting a 1m37 impression of the universe since the beginning.

I really like this.

A beautiful interaction of forces on matter in an almost closed environment with controlled chaos as a result.

Or... some silk and a bunch of fans.

Weirdly compelling.

Via +Bill Bishop at Sinoscism, "The entire China archive of the New York Review of Books is now available free on ChinaFile", and as Bill says, "this is just awesome".

I'm sure there's an important story in here somewhere but I'm afraid I'm mostly interested in the picture of Yao Ming standing about 4 times taller than an elephant.
