It's a very good day. :-)
Hoping that going to Netflix lets the folks at Marvel TV Studios take the properties as gritty as is needed to do the properties justice. Jessica Jones is the one of the bunch I'm REALLY curious about. Could beat Captain Marvel to the punch of presenting a heroine that resonates with female audiences.

Okay, look.  On the "China got caught with plans to nuke us!" panic that people have been forwarding me all morning:

EVERY SINGLE NUCLEAR POWER HAS A PLAN TO WIN A NUCLEAR WAR.  Every one.  I promise you.  You don't have a weapon without a plan for how to use it, if ever needed.  Doesn't mean you ever will, or that you ever want to.  The only "story" here is embarrassment for China that one of theirs got leaked.

We have plans to annex Canada that were drawn up back in the 70s, updated from an earlier plan for a hypothetical war with Great Britain in general.

"And here's the catch... Twitter has become popular enough that it has become a fundamental part of how people run web business and their creative identities. Hulk's not talking about giant conglomerations here. Hulk is talking about websites just like this one. Hulk is talking about the vast amount of freelance film critics, writers and comedians who have tried to build audiences in this space and now have an incredible way of reaching them. Believe it or not, there is nothing more grass roots and merit-based than twitter and if we hand it over to the corporate conglomerations so that they can just post some fucking ads then we're sealing our own doom and going to have to start over in some ways with whatever the new user-friendly social space will be."

Glad someone with big-budget clout is making this stand.  Just wish it was more than just them.

Man, he looks so different bald.

"How quickly and easily do you fall back into Worf's voice and mind set?"
DORN: "Fairly quickly. I’m afraid Worf is always lurking somewhere in the background of my psyche."

"What's really interesting is that the new Ms. Marvel title is poised to examine just how an outsider attempts to fit in. Kamala Khan is the name of the new Ms. Marvel, and her family is from Pakistan (I suspect she's a first generation American, but it's unclear from the Times article). She takes on the Ms. Marvel identity because as a brown skinned outsider she looks up to the very blonde, very capable Captain Marvel."

"No exclusives" needs an asterisk, as some PC games (like the PC version of Skyrim), require Steam.  Including all of Valve's own games.  So no, they're not exclusive to SteamOS, but they are exclusive to Steam.  In better, related news though, Steam Offline Mode is being changed to run offline indefinitely:  http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/05/valve-fixing-steam-offline-to-run-indefinitely/

It's going to be a very slow burn, and I think part of a very long-term strategy.  They've already been modifying Source to run natively in Linux, so the next potential step is getting more 3rd parties to license their newest engine, which will compile for Linux easily.  Steam was a very slow burn too, most people hated it when it launched.  Valve sticks with an idea for a long time until it starts paying out.

Good News:  PS4 supports hard drive replacement as easilly as the PS3.  Long as it's SATA II, you can stick a much bigger drive in and it'll work.

Bad News:  No external drive support.  You'd have to replace the main one.

Weird News:  No audio CD support on PS4?  Why?  That's hardly an expensive function!

Anything else that catches anyone's eye fro discussion in this?

"Indie software titles being seperated from third party titles as a seperate category and feature in an official sony document? How long has that been happening?"

^ This I am okay with since it gets them out from under the shadow of the big dogs, giving them their own spotlight.  Most the rest sounds like Sony being Sony again, which means trying to twist arms into their proprietary services and solutions.  While it doesn't necessarily prevent it from being a gaming device, it sure as hell shoots the PS4 in the foot for being the one device solution for the living room.
