Meditation teaches children that:
- they can respond to their emotions in healthy ways,
- thinking positively makes them happy,
- breathing is a healing tool,
- smiling is a healing tool,
- they can cultivate peace within,
- gratitude and loving kindness heals and
- the brain and the body can calm each other down.

“Research suggests that there is no one “best” way to meditate. Rather, the best style of meditation for any individual is the one he or she finds easiest and most enjoyable (Burke 2012). Meditation researcher Adam Burke, PhD, of San Francisco State University notes that if people do not find a method that suits their individual preferences, the risk is that they will stop practicing before realizing meditation’s many benefits.” - Shirley Archer, Meditation: Push-Ups For The Brain, IDEA, Jan. 2013.

The Six Healing Sounds is a great way to introduce young children to meditation because they're not required to sit still for very long. While having fun making the sounds they discover the calming effect of abdominal breathing and the visualizations allow them to enjoy using their imaginations to reinforce positive thinking.

Here's a short article I wrote explaining how the Qigong meditation to help release worry from the stomach works. Take a few minutes to follow the instructions at the end and let your anxious feelings go.
