In a Volvo presentation yesterday I was presented with their opinion that electric buses aren't cheaper than diesel buses to operate. I can only surmise that [EU-wide move to electric buses] it's being done to keep to EU CO2 commitments. Meanwhile automated electric personal transport is going to completely blow away the old 'routes and timetables' model where 60-seat buses will be near useless. We'll have to spend billions, again. Honestly I would rather see the money spent on new infrastructure in order to prepare cities for an even better solution. Constantly moving, non-parking, on-demand routed, driver-less and personal 'public' transport is the future, in just 15 years.
