Yo this place is bomb. Got the combo which is fish/chips with fried shrimp and it was all super tasty. Def worth the money. The staff was also extremely polite and easy to work with. Shoutout to the Irish girl taking orders today, you're super beautiful and have a lovely accent! In a place where prospective consumers can afford to be eclectic in terms of seafood, I'd definitely recommend The Codfish. 10/10 would eat here again

In short - the best fish and chips I have ever had - you must experience! All I wanted was fresh fish! My wife and I were visiting San Francisco and I expected catch-of-the-day shops to be abundant - boy was I wrong! We drove to Fisherman's Warf (sounds like a place that would have some fresh fish yeah?) but quickly discovered after asking around that it was very difficult to find a place that didn't use frozen fish. One place, Tarantino's even informed us that their crab (misleadingly listed as "market price" on their menu) was actually 3 weeks old frozen. The embarrassment and awkwardness from the people we asked about freshness was shameful. This was the typical response, not only from fine dining establishments, but street vendors as well. I was amazed that it was so difficult to find fresh fish so close to the water, in one of the largest bay cities in the world. I began fantasizing for a moment about buying my own pole and catching something for myself. Luckily for us, we spotted Codmother Fish and Chips. They had intelligently placed a sign out front boasting their superior yelp ratings and reviews. After all the searching we finally had found some fresh fish! The people working there were friendly and fun! We sat down and had the best fish and chips of our lives! My wife got some baja sauce, which was excellent as well. I will dream about this food forever. It was like eating a crispy cod cloud - light, fluffy and crunchy! I don't know what they do to their fries - I want their secrets! The fries were normal chips size, but were crispy and even flakey! Often larger fries at some places are soggy and not crisp at all. Their fries are just amazing! Its magic or something - I need to know their secrets! I do have one suggestion though, why not have fresh tartar sauce? I thought it was odd you had the stuff in packets. Fresh herbs can go a long way and I'm certain if you guys did it - you would probably wind up making the best tarter sauce ever! So I guess this is more of a plea than a suggestion. Please invent the best tarter sauce ever - thanks! I will not go to San Francisco ever again unless it includes a stop at this shop - long live the Codmother! I would have paid twice as much and still been completely happy.

A stationary food truck cracking out some great meals. It's slightly pricey but you can sense the quality and enjoy great customer service

There are few times when I say a place is awesome and this is one. The lady taking the order was super helpful as I was a first timer and she was really friendly! We made a large order consisting of the fish and chip combo with shrimp , shrimp taco, and the regular fish and chips. Brought up a good chat with the counter lady and she also gave us extra shrimp (score for free food!) Lol Favorite was the shrimp taco, whatever that sauce (Baja sauce) they put on it was bomdigity! LOL. If I'm back in town I'm going there again!

The fish tacos were delicious!! Long line but worth the wait. The batter on the cod had a great flavor and perfect crunch. The staff was great- very attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend!!!

This place deserves a 6th star! English Fish-and-Chips are pretty easy to do well, but extremely hard to PERFECTLY. The Codmother does them perfectly! The chips are just so wonderful it's hard to put into words. They're tender and moist, yet firm- with the perfect consistency of crispiness on the outside! The fish is flaky on the inside and airy and crispy on the outside. It's exactly like the kind of Fish-and-Chips you'd find in a breezy, quaint English seaside resort town like Brighton and Hove or Weston super Mare, and I was instantly transported back to some of my most fond memories of a wonderful vacation spent in Great Briton. You will NOT be disappointed!

This review is a story about an outstanding food experience in combination with a horrible service experience. I arrive at the Codmother and place my food order and was told it was going to be 20-25 mins. I don't know if this was a lie or just a terrible miscalculation because it took exactly 47 mins for my food to be ready. No big deal, this is an extremely busy yet very small operation. I wouldn't hold that against them in the review (provided the food was good) because they are obviously working hard to meet the demand. After waiting almost an hour for my food you can imagine my anticipation level. So when the food FINALLY came out I exclaimed "WOW". Apparently one of the employees took this as a complaint because she raised her voice and berated me. She ranted about how there's only one fryer, and how I shouldn't complain and that I could talk to the manager if I wanted. I was being told off for no reason, I didn't even make one complaint at this point. Finally, the owner whom I recognized from TV shows and YouTube clips interjected and was extremely apologetic about her employees behavior. The Food: I got the Fish & chips and the Fish Tacos. Both items we so good I almost forgot about the transgression with the staff member just minutes before(ALMOST). Instantaneously I knew this was the best fish and chips I had ever had. And there isn't a close second. They use very plump pieces of Alaskan cod and fry them in their batter. The batter is flavorful with a perfect crispy texture. The Codmother succeeds in making perfectly balanced fried fish. What I mean by this is the batter/seasoning is just enough to compliment the fish but not over power its natural flavor. It was just a perfect 10 taste/texture & portion wise. The fish tacos were also outstanding. Considering the the fried cod is focal point of this dish it's hard for it not to be good. They keep it simple with the tacos, the fish is placed in a tortilla topped with some greens "parsley?" And their Baja Sauce. Again, simplicity and perfection. I shouldn't neglect to mention the "chips" or the French Fries as we call them here in U.S. These were really good. Obviously freshly made and not the freezer stuff. They had a nice crispy exterior and were soft on the inside. Why they got a 4 star rating: The food here is so good that it should be an automatic 5 stars, I don't think that part is debatable. Generally I'd deduct at least two stars for a staff related issue such as what happened here yesterday. But all things considered, I'm only going to deduct one star. Because again, the food was THAT GOOD. And secondly because the owner tried her best to fix the situation. She even gave me free drinks and a free side of Baja sauce. Im going to treat this like an isolated incident. I think it would be misleading to rate them a 3 or lower. This is a place I would recommend to any and everyone visiting SF and I don't make such strong recommendations on places I consider to be 3 Stars.

The most lovely experience I've ever had buying fish and chips! The staff members are so incredibly friendly, the food was superb and the prices are very reasonable. If I lived in SF, I'd be here everyday!
