Meet Reeves! He is our adorable Neurology Patient with an A-A Luxation. An Atlantoaxial instability is a condition which there is abnormal movement in the neck, between the atlas (first cervical vertebra) and axis (second vertebra). This instability allows abnormal bending between the two bones, which causes compression of the spinal cord. Our Neurology Technicians enjoy spending time with him and decorating his bandage!

Today is the first official day of Summer and with that comes rising temperatures, especially in Florida. Heatstroke is a medical emergency which can occur when your pet’s body temperature exceeds 106°F. Multiple organ systems fail due to high body temperatures—primarily involving the respiratory, cardiovascular, central nervous system and coagulation systems. The best treatment for heatstroke is prevention. Limit the time your dog exercises in hot weather. Never leave your pets in a hot car. Choose cooler periods of the day to be outside (early morning and evening). Provide plenty of cool, fresh water, shade and frequent rest periods. Please spread the word, you could help save a life!
