Neuron by passing the cell body
A typical neuron contains four distinct regions with differing functions: the cell body, the dendrites, the axon, and the axon terminals. Scientists have found a new kind of excitatory neuron in hippocampus which skips the cell body as axons branch out of dendrites rather than directly from cell body. They don't know the function of these neurons yet but initial data confirms their response to glutamate.

Curiosity boosts memory!!!
There is an old saying “curiosity killed the cat” but in humans curiosity boosts the memory. According to a recent study, higher activity was observed in memory and learning associated areas of brain when participants were curious to answer some trivial questions or looking at familiar images. People were able to recall more details about events when they were in state of curiosity. Can curiosity be used to help people with memory problem in disorders like Alzheimer’s?
Stay Curious and Stay Sharp!!!

#Nobel Prize for the #brain ’s GPS discovery

The Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine has been awarded to three scientists who discovered the brain’s “GPS system”.

UK-based researcher Prof John O’Keefe as well as May-Britt Moser and EdvardMoser share the award.

They discovered how the brain knows where we are and is able to navigate from one place to another.

Their findings may help explain why #Alzheimer ’s disease patients cannot recognise their surroundings.

“The discoveries have solved a problem that has occupied philosophers and scientists for centuries,” the Nobel Assembly said.
