My wife Linda and I were staying at Hotel Five and inquired about this restaurant at the desk where we were told "be sure to try the lavender goat cheese fondue". After being nicely greeted and seated by the host, we were served promptly by our delightful waitperson, Cleo, who advised us expertly on several menu items. The delicious mussels we ordered were delivered to our table by Sue, the manager, who visited a bit and made us feel even more welcome. The food we had was as good as the service, EXCELLENT, and this restaurant was one of the high points of our week's visit to Seattle/Victoria. We hope to return to Seattle and, when we do, we will definitely repeat our visit to Palace Kitchen.

The first time I went there, I had the best appetizer. It was the steak tartare. I compared it to the the ones I had in Paris and this was much more flavorful here. I must say the bread deep fried in butter was the best, ever. Hmmm. The pork was delicious for my main dish. The famous coconut pie was too hyped up, it was fine. The second time, I wanted to come back and eat the steak tartare, but they didn't have it. I got a variation of pork, but it just fine, not amazing. My friend ordered chicken, that was okay. At this meal, it seemed a bit expensive for what we got. I will eat here again, but I will wait until a different season so they change their menu. It's a bit pricey, if it the food is not delicious like my first experience.

I had what must be the best 1/2 lb burger in Washington, and as a Texan, I know what great cattle tastes like. They also have great craft brews...the water is just more fresh in this state. Make sure and get a basket of bread, it comes from the bakery a block away.

I went there first on the evening I had landed in Seattle and just had the burger. The meat, cheese and the fries were good, don't get me wrong nothing to complain about, I liked it. But tonight I went again and this time tried more interesting things, first the goat cheese lavender fondue, which was delicious, then the steak which was perfect. After this second visit, I can raise my rating of the food from Very Good to Excellent :) Sadly I was full and could not try the cherry and almond tart.
