Read my latest article, which looks at five ways TERMINATOR: GENISYS could've been a better hit!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhughes/2015/07/16/five-ways-terminator-genisys-couldve-been-a-bigger-hit/
The summer of 2015 has been good to studios, with numerous big blockbusters and solid mid-range performances all around. Universal has set records and scored a surprising top position so far with $3 billion in receipts, while Disney continues to amaze and will have another huge year. On the all-time list [...]

Thoughtful as always Mark.  First let me say, I hope you are working on a screen play in addition to your Forbes writing.  Very twisty and clever plotting on your part!!  As to the box office and overall reception of this movie I'm very disappointed.  I've seen three big reboots this summer--Mad Max, Jurassic World, and Terminator--and I think they all stand nicely together.  True I would give the "best of" nod to MM and "most surprisingly entertaining" to JW but the public disdain towards Terminator seems overdone.  But, the market speaks!  If I could build on one of your comments--I was definitely excited to see Emilia Clarke in this role.  She is fantastic in Game of Thrones.  But, I didn't "see" any of that character.  Do we think they deliberately buried Daenerys to let this character shine?  Could it be that Ms. Clark has the ability to disappear into a role--to create a character--and because of that ability those of us that were looking for Daenerys2 were disappointed?  I'm just not sure how to frame her performance here...different but good in it's own way?  My other thought after reading your review--I didn't mind Jai Courtney so much.  Sturdy performance, mission accomplished.  Oh well, thank goodness for overseas box office.  Perhaps this will provide enough revenue for Genisys - 2?   Speaking of missions...the trailer for Mission Impossible is THRILLING!!!!

The wait is over -- read my full review of ANT-MAN right now!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhughes/2015/07/08/review-ant-man/
VideoThe mantra for summer sequel production is always "go bigger." Bigger story, bigger effects, bigger stakes, bigger cast, and -- so the studio hopes -- bigger box office. Since launching their cinematic shared super-universe in 2008, Marvel Studios have proven themselves masters of the "go bigger" concept, with the fate of [...]

Think theaters are losing business and box office is losing customers? Think again...

http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhughes/2015/07/24/dolby-imax-announce-expansions-as-global-box-office-grows/
Conventional wisdom says theater attendance is in a long, steady decline, while the movie industry suffers because fewer audiences are willing to pay for theatrical release tickets when they have increasingly numerous, high-quality viewing options at home. You'll find these assumptions repeated in just about every major media outlet, by just about every professional entertainment writer. These [...]

http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhughes/2015/07/03/review-terminator-genisys-is-true-heir-to-camerons-films/
VideoIt's been a while since I said my reaction to a film left me wondering what movie all the other film critics saw. So I suppose I was due for another "huh?" experience at the theater. If you've heard that the latest sci-fi sequel Terminator: Genisys is a poor entry [...]

I enjoyed this movie, and I'd give it a B/B+. I don't know why the reviews have been mediocre. I, like you, find it the best Terminator movie since T2.
