Hey folks! I'm running a Kickstarter for Retrocausality, a tabletop RPG about time travel. The book is already written, so this is a small KS for some professional art and layout work.

Retrocausality is a simple, card-based game, designed to be adapted for any time travel story you want to tell. I'll send backers the old version, so they can get started sooner!

Hey folks. I'm currently planning a small KS for an art/layout update to Retrocausality, a silly tabletop RPG I made in like 2013. I already wrote the book so I'm aiming for a low-cost campaign that doesn't need much more work on my part. How does this draft look?

Hey folks! I'm back to tell you about the latest project I'm doing.

My tabletop game Breakfast Cult has been going pretty well, and I'm looking to take on another project in 2017 so I can afford to dedicate more time to expansions. So we've decided to make a Breakfast Cult visual novel!

Breakfast Cult: the Visual Novel is a tale of high school mystery and cosmic horror, based on the tabletop game. You play as Pinky, a student who was recently let back in after expulsion, as they struggle to uncover a plot that could destroy the Academy without getting in trouble with the increasingly suspicious Foundation that run the school.

We're pretty confident in this, but we've just launched and we could still use a push to help us get over the line. If it sounds interesting to you, it's a great time to check it out! If you know someone who'd be interested, please share it!

This isn't a great time to be starting an RPG business, but it's an amazing time to be into this hobby, and a fascinating time to be a designer.

+Paul Ettin Just released an in-character audiobook of The Breakfast Cult (done by General Ironicus of Six Feats Under). It's kind of a goofy stretch goal thing, but it's kind of awesome too. I'm legit curious how well someone could absorb the game from a 5-hour audiobook, but it definitely makes a good way to brush up on the game.

In the foreword to the Flight comics anthology, Scott McCloud spoke in terms of the artists having "metabolized" manga. In both comics and RPGs, there was a kinda cringey period when people thought of Japanese stuff as being so special that they had to be Super Anime All The Time if they were going to draw on it. While it wasn't all bad, Big Eyes Small Mouth was very much from that embarrassing phase in our relationship with Japanese media, whereas Breakfast Cult is an exemplar in the RPG equivalent of those manga-influenced artists in Flight. It explicitly named titles like Dangan Ronpa and Persona 4 among its influences, but the game is confidently doing its own thing, happily including more Western elements and crafting a pretty uniquely compelling take on cosmic horror.

Similarly, we're seeing a new generation of RPG designers who've absorbed the ideas from The Forge, Apocalypse World, Fate, and so on, as well as lessons from past classics like D&D and Call of Cthulhu, and confidently synthesized it into games like Strike! and Fellowship. So that's pretty cool and I can't think of a good way to end this, but that's why it's a G+ post and not a blog essay thing.

Hey folks! Good news: the print edition of Breakfast Cult is available now. Great news: for people wondering what the game's like, I decided to make something to give you a taste.

Peer Pressure is a primer based on the game I ran for the Six Feats Under podcast. Inside you'll find setting info, sample characters, and a sample mystery for GMs. It's also pay-what-you-want. Check it out!

Fractured Skies

Hey folks. So as some of you know, I had a little project going on before Breakfast Cult - a spiritual sequel to Inverse World Accelerated, using my original Fate Core notes and my own personal feelings on how I could have done IWA better.

Well, I've been working on it in bits and pieces since 2014, and now that I could use a little more money for Breakfast Cult, I decided to finish it up over the weekend.

Do you like Fate? Did you like Inverse World? Do you like the sound of nontraditional fantasy with a focus on airships, trade, and cultural exchange? Then check out Fractured Skies:

If your go-to when you don't like someone is "this person is mentally ill" I sincerely hope you never work with kids.

So, while I wait for the print version of Breakfast Cult to get validated, I'm setting up a bunch of community stuff. Here's a G+ community to start! I'll be cross-posting Kickstarter updates here and hopefully a few smaller announcements.

Haven't really used G+ in a while, but it's still on my taskbar so I figure I should at least update every once in a while. Over the week I'm gonna nuke some of my old friends, clean up my circles a little, and join some better groups. Maybe even... make a post?

EDIT: I just deleted a bunch of circles I couldn't remember the purpose of, so if I stopped circling you it wasn't personal. I'm gonna build these back up as I go.
