I grew up in the small hill town of Almora in an old, old bungalow surrounded by pine trees with a view of the Himalayan snows from behind my house. A shy girl with her nose always in a book, I liked to make up my own stories even as a child. I have worked as a teacher, but it was much later in my life (when my three girls began to go to school) that I seriously considered writing as a profession. Without any plans to settle into this genre, I found that I enjoyed writing for children and have been at it for over twenty-five years. I also write poetry and fiction for adults,
translate from Hindi into English and research children's literature. My notable books are an adventure novel
CARAVAN TO TIBET which was selected for the IBBY Honour list 2008 and is also available in Korean. Recent titles include RAJULA AND THE WEB OF DANGER,
the retelling of a folk epic from my native state of Uttarakhand for children and HER PIECE
OF SKY an anthology of stories translated from Hindi to English that I
compiled and edited. Just a month ago I put up a collection of my ghost stories THE MAILBOX GHOST AND OTHER SPOOKY TALES as a Kindle book on Amazon.
My daughters are all married now and I have five adorable grandchildren. I live in Delhi with my husband Dilip, who is a book lover too.
