The Glenfiddich Distillery is located in Dufftown, Banffshire, Scotland and is still owned by the William Grant Family.  The Glenfiddich Distillery is one of nine located in Dufftown and it was on Christmas Day in December 1887 when whiskey first poured from the distillery.  Apart from being a long standing scotch whiskey distillery, Glenfiddich is also noted by the Glenfiddich Distillery as being “the world’s leading single malt” whiskey. The sheer vastness of the place is evident by the 35 acres of land on which they warehouse the whiskies, bottle the whiskies and have three separate distilleries.

The Solera Vat expression is very smooth and flavorful.  Half of the vat’s original contents is removed and replaced with whiskies from sherry, bourbon and new oak casks.  Through maturity and blending the solera vat creates a marriage of those whiskies which is then finished in large storage casks called tuns.

The Glenfiddich 15 YO is 40% alcohol by volume (ABV) and, according to the tasting notes in the World Atlas of Whiskey by Dave Broom, has the following characteristics:

Nose:  Ripe and very soft with a character akin to plum jam and baked apple.

Palate: Soft and silky.  Thicker than 12 YO with stewed black fruit, coconut notes, and dried grass.

Finish: Ripe and full.

The Glenfiddich 15 YO is one of my favorites and I hope you come to enjoy Scottish whiskey as much as we do.  The spicy notes and full flavor will help you on your journey toward discovering an exceptional whiskey.
