I thru-hiked the AT in 2014 with my family. I am also a software developer. I recently launched a modern trail journalling platform called Outsideways. If you are an avid hiker, backpacker, or are heading out for a thru-hike and are looking for a place to journal your adventures, I invite you to come on over and join our growing community!

I still think we need to team-up and produce some minimalist footwear products for hikers/backpackers :-)

Hey folks, this spring our family is going to be thru-hiking the AT. We are going to be doing a video series on the trip, so if you like trip reports, trail culture, and interesting stories, you may want to check out our Kickstarter campaign. At the very least, we would appreciate it if you could share it with others to help spread the word.

Toe Salad is creating a video series in 2014... a family, backpacking for 6 months over 2000 miles on the Appalachian Trail, in minimalist footwear (of course!). Help us spread the word, and back our Kickstarter campaign if you like what we are doing!

A family (i.e. dad, mom, and three kids) backpacking for 6 months over 2000 miles? Back our Kickstarter project to breathe life into an amazing video series we have planned for 2014.

Today marks the first day of my kids training for a series of 10 km trail runs this fall. We ran the series last fall an it was a lot of fun, but they did the shorter 1-2km courses. This summer they ran their first 5k. Now they all want to do the full 10k races. I have them following a novice program by Hal Higdon for 10k training - we shall see how it goes. This morning they all ran 4k and there were no complaints, so things are off to a good start!

Super flexible, zero-drop... what about that toebox though... Nike is getting closer!
Nike Free Hyperfeel: The Running Shoe That's Essentially A Sock (VIDEO)

By +Michael Rundle

Nike has a new running shoe: the Nike Free Hyperfeel.

And it's essentially a sock.

The ultra-minimalist shoe is designed to deliver the most natural running motion ever possible with a pair of Nikes, in a similar way to the also-recently-announced Under Armour Speedform.

And while our PR hyperbole sensors are usually set to 'deflect' when it comes to running shoes, this is a company that does have a recent history of genuine innovation.

So when Nike says that the Hyperfeel should "feel like an extension of the body by minimising layers between the foot and the ground", you have to listen - even if talk of its new "amplified design" ethos does trigger your waffle alarm.
