It has been almost two years since I started going to DC Aikido. I love it. I was nervous to start a martial art, but Sensei Michael Veltri, all of the instructors, and all of the students, make DC Aikido incredibly welcoming. I've befriended a great group of people, somehow now get along better with all of the other people in my life, and have gotten in great shape. Training at DC Aikido is tremendously fun.

I've been a member since August 2012 and I'm glad I took the time to visit/review/research all martial arts locations that are available in the DC area. I was very impressed by the dojo since I first stepped onto their mat. Everyone I met was friendly and very welcoming. After the two tutorial sessions with Charly, I knew that I was going to be a proud member of this dojo. The black belt instructors are great and the all the rest of the members are great as well. Unlike other places I've visited, I didn't feel intimidated by anyone at this dojo. Everyone wanted to help each other learn the techniques and the philosophy behind them. The dojo is clean and well kept. It is conveniently located across the Woodley Park metro and just a few miles by bike.

A true DC gem!!! My 8 year old son was interested in learning Martial Arts, and I was looking for a place near Adams Morgan area, which is near our home. I searched online and found two that had good potential. I tried both places - BETA Academy, and DCAikido. What I found was very surprising to me, and to cut to the chase - DC Aikido is an amazing place on many levels, and I'll try to be more specific for those who are doing the research and take the time to read reviews... The introduction at BETA was ok, but I wasn't sure about it. The first lesson was about how to stand right and how to throw a punch. My son 'earned' a badge and his uniform after that lesson. The second and third lessons were about other punches and kicks. Just to be fair, that place teaches a type of martial arts that is similar to Thai Boxing. However, the intro lessons were not quite what I hoped my son's first experience would be. So I went to try DC Aikido, and fell in love with the place. The first lesson with DC Aikido was not about kicking, punching, or even standing. The first lesson was with Charly, a really gifted teacher that is very in-tuned with his role and the importance of what he does on kids' life. We started with a discussion with my son and me about expectations, Aikido background, lesson structure, and connecting lessons with character and behavior at school and home. The end of the first lesson was learning how to bow correctly, how to sit correctly, and the meaning behind them. My son took additional two introductory lessons, where we got to meet the instructors, observe lesson plans, and see how the teaching really follows everything that we talked about initially - talking about values, how they effect the kids life, applied moves to daily life, connecting the dots to school environment, and of course some fun games too. The three introductory lessons were amazing and above my expectations by a mile. If you're looking for a place that is really a school that builds a character wholistically - DC Aikido is a real gem that deserves the recognition and respect for what they do, and the way they do it.

I have been a member of this dojo since 2006.  I love this dojo.  The management staff is GREAT and the classes are very GREAT as well.  The blackbelts and 1st kyu members are nice and wonderful to work with.  This dojo is like a family where most folks knows each other.  I am glad that I joined and the prices are pretty much the same as other dojos in the area but we have a diverse group of students and I do not think you have that in to many dojos. I recommend this dojo to anyone who wants to learn Aikido.

Nothing but high praise for DC Aikido! I joined the studio last summer for two reasons: to work up a sweat and to use aikido as a physical prism that casts new light on the conversations I conduct day-in, day-out for work as a life coach. From day 1 it has superseded my expectations in the following ways: Everybody is supportive. Anytime I have been stuck, somebody has been there to show me the way. The instructors are eager and attentive. The sparkle on the sheen of DC Aikido’s bright culture is its students, who patiently and respectfully help bring less advanced students to their next level. Every lesson is enlightening. Each class points to new ways I can better serve my clients. Whether we study balance, flexibility, striking or grabbing, not a single lesson goes by without offering up new insights. These insights translate immediately into more adroit and powerful conversations – and satisfied clients.

GREAT Dojo! I have been training for about a year at DC Aikido and I love it! The folks there are amazing! Veltri Sensei and his team provide a fun and friendly environment for kids and adults. I have gained so much than just learning Aikido. I have gained confidence, strength, and entire Dojo family that I value as my own family. I have found that in training he continually pushes his students to improve their game, both in examining the group as a whole and pinpointing the exact areas that each individual student needs to improve. The support I have received at the dojo has helped improve not only my Aikido and techniques, but my overall sense of self on the mat...my weaknesses and strengths (physical AND mental) are pointed out to me daily and corrected with patience and understanding. What's more, there has ALWAYS been someone of high rank or experience available to answer any question I might have at any given time. I can't say enough about how grateful I am to have met and trained with such an extraordinary man and group of people. Thank you DC Aikido!!!

I love my dojo. We are truly family here. I began training at this dojo in 2007 and have gained so much from the experience. Aikido is like my oxygen. It revitalizes me after attending the early 7 a.m. classes or in the evening after a long work day. Sensai Michael and the other senior instructors take their time with you and help you to realize your full potential, not just in the dojo, but how to carry it into your daily life. It is not just self defense, but a total mind, body and life coaching experience. Come visit DC Aikido and take an introductory class and experience the warmth of this dojo.

When I step into the DC Aikido studio I forget about the stressful day I had at work. It is my time now! It is the place where I can be myself, and give my body the exercise it needs to unwind, and to center itself. In my 8+ years of training, I have evolved and grown so much as a person (I still am;) I have learned to strengthen my focus, and to find the discipline I needed to pursuit my personal goals. I also have made so many good friends, not only from Washington, DC, but from every corner of the world.
