Finally, a restaurant with superb food without the expectation of having to act like an "upper-class" snob. The atmosphere is fun, family friendly and you can actually have a conversation, tell a joke and laugh without some dignitary in a fur coat clutching their monocle in disgust on the table next to you. Too many restaurants in Australia try to be a "5 star dining experience" and they think that good food and good service means library-esque atmosphere and strange looks from staff as you try to have a good time. That's not to say Jamie's Italian suffers in any way. While the menu is different, the taste is supreme and holds ranks right up there with Summit or Aria, without being pretentious. Waiters were friendly and neat and very busy. They take time to explain the menu and make sure they get the food just right. Make sure you save room for desert, you wont be sorry. The tiramasu is highly recommended. For mains, I went with carbonara which was delightfully salty but well balanced with perfectly cooked pasta. This is an Italian restaurant after all. The polenta chips were especially good, I could probably eat a whole bucket of them without batting an eyelid. I also went for the meat antipasti plank as entree, which had a selection of cured meats with varying degrees of intensity, complete with a refreshing salad which I even rate despite hating beetroot. I wasn't a huge fan of the decor, but that's just my taste. It is "rustic", but I thought it looked a little grubby at times, though this was by design. The restaurant and kitchen were exceptionally clean. This place doesn't take reservations for small groups (like 2 or 4 people), but we walked in with no trouble at about 5:30pm and were served quickly. On our way out (at about 7:30), we overheard the waiters informing new customers that there was about an hour wait time to be seated. I would suggest going in early, or booking a table for 6 or more in advance. If you can't book, don't worry - it's well worth the wait! This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. You don't have to feel like you're supposed to be rich to sit in the place, but you will eat like a king. Do yourself a favor and experience Jamie's Italian next time you're in Sydney.

If you have $1000 to spend on repairs you probably don't need, head to Midas at Rockdale. They can be fast, but way over priced. Expect AT LEAST $90 an hour charge for labour. One time, it cost me $85 to change one spark plug. The team are friendly enough, but you'll get ripped off, and your car will keep developing problems you've never had before.
