Children's Day

It is time to observe a day to value and uplift children in our community. Centro Cultural of Washington County in collaboration with The Cornelius Public Library is sponsoring the 12th Annual Children's Day Celebration. This event will take place on Saturday, April 28th, 2012, at Echo Shaw Elementary School in Cornelius from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The theme for this year is "Celebrating Education" - "Celebrando la Educación". We are encouraging participants to provide educational activities and giveaways.

Our goal is to promote a stronger and safer community by coming together, celebrating our children, as well as having fun and interacting with family, friends, and neighbors.

This family event includes a parade, talent show, music, dancing, singing, clowns, food, games, arts and crafts, information booths and activities for children with special needs. All activities are provided free and hot dogs are also provided at no cost.

Christmas is the busiest season for Centro Cultural as we attempt to “do the most good” to most people in the most need. It is the season for giving, and everyone wants to give their families the best Christmas possible; however, some struggle with it. That is where Centro Cultural wants to help families have a truly special Christmas, and we do whatever we can to make that possible. That is why Centro will adopt 100 families this December 23, 2011 and provide them with holiday food baskets/gifts.

Centro Cultural depends solely on the food and toy drives of generous companies, stores, churches, and individuals. We are seeking donations of new and unwrapped toys, and canned food items including pumpkin, green beans, cranberry sauce, fruit, beans, yams, sweet potatoes, boxed stuffing, olives, canned meat, and other non-perishable items. Donations can be dropped off at our facility. We appreciate you for taking the time to consider this request.
