Today In British Gay History: July 27, 1967 – Elizabeth II Formally Decriminalizes Homosexuality in the UK.
On this day in July 1967 just under 2 years before the Stonewall Riots in the United States – The Sexual Offences Act 1967 received royal assent from Elizabeth II, decriminalizing private homosexual acts in England and Wales. The age of consent for homosexual acts is set at 21, compared to 16 for heterosexual acts.
