I have friends who enjoy tinkering on their cars. In order to go grocery shopping you can often find them needing to rebuild the carburetor or adjusting the gaps on their spark plugs. On a vacation they can be seen alongside the road with a blown transmission.  "I like having this car; I've learned a lot about keeping it going. People with cars that simply work while taking their owners on appointed tasks are weak-minded derps and derpinas."

For myself, I've never regretted buying my iMacs. I keep a PC around just in case I forget how "fun" it can be to keep it going to do the simple things I need to get done.

Yet, some of my best friends are auto mechanics, too.

Argh! So I talked my friend Ginny into buying an iPhone, iPad, and iMac. Yesterday we set it up and were able to get on the house WiFi network, the Internet, access printers, access the old PC and all its files, set up email client and get/receive emails, and sync contacts, email, calendars and music through iCloud.  Since that only took an hour, I told her to go ahead and let iTunes update the operating system to her iPhone and left. I was almost home when I got a mobile call. Seems that the update failed and iTunes is unable to update iPhone and, in fact, has bricked the iPhone since it can't restore from the alleged backup it made. So now she has no iPhone and must take it back to Verizon to get it rebuilt. Meanwhile the iMac can't update iTunes because the download is corrupt but we can't get rid of the download to get an uncorrupted version. Tried to get into her AppleId account and got an impossible access error on Apple's server.

Now that I've shown Ginny how Apple "just makes things work" I think I'll go over to Jann's and get her to go ahead and get an iPhone and iMac.  We will switch to wearing black turtlenecks and designer jeans and hang at Starbucks.

It will be a long fire season, this is only the beginning.
The official tally of homes burned in the High Park fire is now 112, making the blaze still moving west of Fort Collins the most devastating loss of property in Northern Colorado, Larimer County sheri...

Today my Cocker Spaniel dog, Ronin (CH Ebony Hills Evening Echo RA UDX), got a score of 196 (out of 200) in Utility B and 193 in Open B at the Flatiron Kennel Club Obedience Trial in Longmont, Colorado. He thus obtained his 10th UDX Leg to win his UDX Title (Utility Dog eXcellent). Five and a half years hard work by this super Cocker Spaniel has paid off.

Just last week we got word that Ronin is tied for 2nd Place for Cocker Spaniels in AKC Obedience in the United States.

Yay, Ronin!  You go, boy!

Some days. I was on the phone talking someone through a problem they were having using their Internet browser which is always Firefox. Except this time this person insists on using Safari. OK. Carefully I lead them through step-by-step. I explain where on the application window the address window is. I ask if they see it. Yes. Ok, place your cursor in the address pane, the clear white portion of the Address Bar, do you see that. Yes. Now enter ... <the URL> ... two seconds later we are gods only know where. Why? Because the person insists on doing again what has got them into the problem before. They do not put their cursor there. They do not enter the URL. I have no idea what they have done. We start over. Three times we go through this. I waste 45 minutes of my life attempting to help someone and I end up wanting to slap them. I am not a support person; I haven't the patience. At some point I simply give up.

Everything is unsure. But I've heard that contractors on work already paid for are working on defense contracts. Maybe this is the same. No one can be sure, especially with the Oct 17 deadline coming up.  Good luck, just hang in there.

Getting psyched up to judge obedience at the Buckhorn Valley Kennel Club B/OB Match tomorrow. I hope the facilities are good and everything comes off as planned. I want to provide a positive experience for the competitors. Must remember to bring a clipboard.

Wow, it is a good thing I posted this! Someone wrote to ask me the address of the park in Berthoud where the match is. I thought it was at The Ranch. Quick communication with higher ups and found it is going to be in a park at 620 Mountain Avenue, Berthoud, CO. I would have missed the entire thing!

Excited about upcoming AKC dog obedience trials in Colorado Springs, four trials in two days!  These are indoors in a packed dirt arena which Ronin loves. We found a hotel that is clear of bedbugs, according to the Bedbug Registry website.  Close to a Subway shop, too.

GO RONIN!  Sounds like a little slice of heaven for both dog and owner.  Good luck in the trials.

The name is Old Firehouse Books and it is a Bookstore that has primarily new books which are normally priced. The store has a good selection and a handy web page from which I frequently and conveniently order books. They bring in authors for book signings and sponsor activities for book clubs and young readers.
