With B.Mus & M.Mus degrees from The Shepherd School of Music, Jim studied with Shirley Trepel, William Pleeth, Lev Aronson, and Robert LaMarchina. He played in the Honolulu Symphony from 1985 through 1988 and also taught at the Punahou School from 1986 through 1988. He became a member of the Houston Symphony in 1988 and has been there for the past 28 years.

Here's the first of Schumann’s “Fantasiestücke”, Op. 73 for cello and piano from my new CD, “Lives”, celebrating the 25th anniversary of my farewell recital from my 3 years in Honolulu and the 31st year of my friendship with José Feghali, the accompanist on the recital and the Gold Medalist in the 1985 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. We did pretty darn well this year – I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors and to teach the women who stay at Santa Maria Hostels!

Playing "Fiesta Sinfonica" at 6pm in Jones Hall to a SOLD OUT audience ... tickets were free though, so that makes it easy to fill the hall!
