Overpriced, rather unfriendly staff. The good: TONS of vinyl. That in itself is a good thing. The bad: nothing actually worth buying. Unless you are a diehard fan and you want to buy the third-rate stuff done by every artist, there isn't much for you here. Pink Floyd for example: no "Dark Side of the Moon" or "Final Cut" or "The Wall," but plenty of other stuff. Same with every artist. Maybe the LPs have just been too picked through- but if you are looking for the best of any artist, you will have a hard time finding it.

I always show up not expecting to find anything, and I always walk out with at least 2 or so gems I never thought I'd find anywhere but eBay for big bucks. Such a great record shop I find myself aimlessly wandering as my more in depth record hunting friends spend forever going up and down the aisles. Always turns my frowns upside down when I go here (did I seriously just write that? I guess I did...)

A tiny but very well-curated shop with special attention paid to soundtracks, jazz, classical, and 20th-century composers. Great $1-$3 bins, too, although you need to really troll through 'em regularly since the good stuff vanishes quickly. Very knowledgeable staff, and look in the shop window for some amazing rare finds too.

Best place to sell old records in NYC. Paid me way more than I expected!

Loads of classical music which is not my thing, yet. Only few rows of electronica, hip hop, soul etc. But I didn't mind! That is because I seemed to be the only one going for those, and I did certainly find a plenty of good music from one to three dollars a CD on the clearance section of shelves. Highly recommemded place to drop by.

Really i feel like i should write a review here about one of my favorite spots to loiter in brooklyn or even all of new york for that matter. but i feel like academy doesn't really need the kind words. everybody knows them, and everybody loves them. it's the one place i can be sure to find some of the hard to find stuff that others don't have. once you find that place you don't look back. but to those that haven't wondered in there yet. give academy a chance and you'll not need to find another. love the staff too

Here on vacation but I always save a few hours to look through used CDs. This shop is well organized, has a great selection, and the people were helpful. Prices were decent even for new stuff, which was a pleasant surprise.
