The only thing left to build now are the doors. Then, a lot of sanding.

Progress on the music cabinet. The web frames are finished and fitted (but not glued yet), and I've started working on the frame-and-panel back.

The music cabinet is coming along nicely. Since my last post, I've glued up the case (sides + shelf) and am nearly done with the interior joinery. Lots of sliding dovetails, which were a challenge until I figured out a few tricks.

The finished table. Better shots coming, I hope, when I have some time to experiment with photography. We bought some new dishes and napkins yesterday; we are planning to get some new chairs too.

Envy forces me to keep my praise limited to: that's awesome.

Butterfly leaf mechanism and sliding sides. One side is still a bit sticky.

I made a jig for sawing dovetails today. It's designed to be used with a Japanese dovetail saw, and measures about 2" x 2" x 4". Rare earth magnets in the ends keep the saw flush. They are covered with a square of UHMW tape to let the saw blade move smoothly. Stick-on 400 grit sandpaper keeps it from moving on the workpiece.

Not an original idea. A home-made version of http://davidbarronfurniture.co.uk/david_barron_tools.asp?pg=1&id=5. There's also something similar from Veritas: http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=41718&cat=1,42884,41718

+James Torrey The hardware is from Woodcraft, but the slide mechanism I made myself out of wood, using the technique from FWW #220.

Latest work on the dining table. For the first time, I got to put the top on the base and see what it's going to look like. Sanded top to final thickness, cut slides to final dimensions, and mounted hinges for butterfly leaf.

Henri repaired a souvenir bowl that had sentimental value to my wife. When I surprised her with it, she thought at first that I had managed to find an exact replacement!
