This place has become our "go to" place. The building was the location of the original Macaroni Grill. My young son and I stopped in for lunch one day; we were headed to Rudy's next door. The chef came by our table and talked to us for quite a while. He explained the concept of the restaurant, cooking techniques, and sat and told us funny stories about growing up in Paris. Later, he sent us a chocolate fondant for desert. My son tried it, but he's a very picky eater, I thought it was amazing. When the chef asked how he liked it, he said it was OK... He called a server over and told them to bring him chocolate terrine. That, he devoured. He said whenever we come in to ask for him. He didn't know us from Adam. The chef also didn't know George Strait had been sitting two booths down, until we told him. We've been a fan of the place ever since. They have a standard menu, great for my kids because I know there's something consistent for them, and a special menu that seems to change daily based on what's in season. I can have lamb or lobster, my wife can have her Dover Sole and my kids love the beef tenderloin medallions with garlic mashed potatoes or a pizza. Prices for the standard menu are cheap and portions are huge. The special menu items are more expensive (Dover Sole $50) but the flavors and presentation are like a 4 star restaurant. We usually go with friends on Tuesday because all of the wines are half price. From the pictures hanging in the lobby, you can tell the Spurs had their championship dinners there. We've seen Coach Pop there several times picking up take-out. I guess he's why they hold fund raisers for the food bank and military vets there, too. They also have a large patio outside with live music and the folks seem to be having a great time. We try the new restaurants in the area and end up right back at The Grill. My son just had his sixteenth birthday dinner there (his request) with his girlfriend, and five of his friends. It cost me $185, including the tip. He said they treated them like royalty. The chef personally delivered his chocolate terrine. Nice touch Chef Thierry!

Fine dining... great things come in small small packages! Each bite is savory and Delicious. No need to "over eat" a full plate if you admire and appreciate what you're eating! Thanks to all the chefs 💟

Highly overpriced food for the quality! For the amount of money we paid per plate, I was expecting a little more food. The party I was with ordered crab cakes and those were very fresh and delicious. The waiter was somewhat pushy and not very informative. Oh, and did I forget to mention the rat we saw? It ran across the base board under a booth. When I brought it to the waiter and manager's attention, they were saying it happens sometimes because there's a field close by and they were moving things around in their storage room. When I asked if he was trying to say it came from the storage room where the food is kept, he said they had left the door open so it must have come from outside. :) We will Never go there again, and will be reporting them to the health inspector, who obviously needs to do a surprise visit on this place.

very disappointed, the food was mediocre to say the least and the service was condescending. Very obvious that they cater to frequent guests, and until you become a regular, your presence will be tolerated at best.

Here's the good... Waitstaff is very pleasant. Wine list is acceptable. Cocktails were tasty! Decor is cute. The miso glazed sea bass was also tasty. Here's the not so good... The calamari was a bit rubbery and under-seasoned. The duck in the duck a la orange salad was not rendered well and frankly tasted like ham. The salad needed acid. Here's the bad... The veal in the veal piccata was completely over cooked to the point of shoe leather! and the piccata was NOT piccata. It was brown and tasted like beef gravy. The tiramisou had NO coffee in it. Here's the ugly... When our meal was over and the manager/owner came by (we had sent several things back to the kitchen) to ask us about our experience, we gave him the highlights (or should I say lowlights) and he told us we were wrong. That his food was impeccably French and that we had no idea what we were talking about. We explained that we had infact traveled extensively in Europe including France and we both knew how to cook. He then said we were just trying to get free food and he can't make money that way. We agreed to disagree and left. Needless to say, we will NEVER go back and would NEVER recommend this restaurant. If you're looking for an elevated cuisine in the SA area try Mike's on the Square in Bulverde. It's not epic, but the chef/owner isn't an ass! IF you do decide to try it anyway, ask to be seated in Rudy's section - He's a very knowledgeable employee and will steer you away from some of the tragically bad menu choices they have.
