Happy Mother's Day to the 'Other Mothers' in our lives, from aunts, cousins or special friends. I know three modest yet very special women who play a big role in children’s lives, though they are not mothers themselves: Jo Ann of Colorado, Pam of Indiana, and Hayley Rose of Arizona. Please click to read their stories. http://ow.ly/LkiQ30bHMUh

Passover greetings to my Jewish friends. Chag Sameach! Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson wrote "Freedom is within our grasp, and Pesach (Passover) reminds us that we need to reach." Passover celebrates the liberation of Jews from slavery in Egypt. In Poland, the fight for liberation took the form of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising begun on Passover 1943. I'm still thinking about The Zookeeper's Wife after seeing it yesterday. I'm very well-researched on Poland and that time period. Many viewers may not know about one character briefly portrayed in the movie: Dr. Janusz Korczak, the director of an orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto. The Polish underground tried to save him on several occasions but he refused to leave the children. I wrote a post on him two years ago. He's a very interesting Pole of note worth honoring as part of the history. Click to read more. http://ow.ly/iPPz30axj8Q

#TheZookeepersWife opens in U.S. theaters March 31, 2017. Jan and Antonina Żabiński ran the Warsaw Zoo in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. They are credited with saving over three hundred Jews. Today their villa is a museum, and Yad Vashem recognizes them as Righteous Among The Gentiles. Their story, and this movie, are more timely than ever. January 27 is Holocaust Remembrance Day 2017. This year's them by the United Nation is "Educating for a Better Future." With anti-Semitism and hate on the rise we need to remember the lessons of history. We simply must not forget that an estimated three million Polish Jews, and 1.9 million Poles lost their lives under the Nazi regime of WWII. Click for more info, a review of the film Denial, and a shocking incident too close to home. http://ow.ly/GbUr308gSRn
