Through the influence of the widow Custiss, George Washington was considered the wealthiest American of his time by 1760 through 1798. In comparison to the GDP of his era and succeeding eras through today George Washington may be considered among the wealthiest American's of all time, though the vast majority of the property remained in the son and grandson of Martha's first husband.
