Changes in Blend4Web Release Cycle

This year, we plan to introduce a number of major engine features, including global illumination, fully dynamic scenes and geometry, support for GLTF, our own interactive WYSIWYG viewport for Blender, centralized asset management across projects, and much more.

Development and testing these functions takes a considerable amount of time, so we decided to step out of the fixed release schedule in favor of functionality-bound releases. This will allow you to offer you a stable product with every release and introduce really useful features you can use in commercial applications.

Right now, a major update for our Web Player is in the work, and we would like to lift the veil on the recent progress.

Many Blend4Web like this application and make heavy use of it for creating 3D portfolios, presentations, simple product configurators and other small-scale projects. Powerful visual logic system makes it a perfect solution for quickly transferring 3D graphics to web pages. What’s equally important is that you don’t need to purchase a commercial license or to open the source code of your project when you are using Web Player.

So here are just a few of the features that we are preparing right now:

1. New and contemporary-styled design with easy way to customize every aspect of a project.
2. Smart user interface: now, the composition of UI components will depend on the content and settings of the scene.
3. Multi-language preloader with extended functionality.

And how do you see the future of Web Player? Please share your ideas in the comments. The development is proceeding at full drive, and we would like to implement the most interesting of your suggestions!

The latest version of Blend4Web engine, 17.12, introduced support for ECMAScript 6. This new architecture allows for significant reduction of the codebase size as well as for integration with popular JavaScript frameworks.

British blogger Ian Scott continues his Blend4Web tutorials with an example of a 3D scene controlled by HTML elements. The video also explains the nuances of migrating an application to ES 6.
