We had drinks and dessert here one evening and sat in the lounge area so I can't speak to the full menu. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and punctual. Both our drinks (lava flow & lilikoi martini) and our desserts (chocolate molten lava cake & lilikoi tart- notice a pattern?) were good, not outstanding and we didn't order seconds of either but they were good. Cocktails were maybe a little overpriced for what we got. Ambience was a little weird- we were literally sitting in the resort lobby. They had live music that (for me) was definitely intended for the DEEP background. If we had a lot more time on island it could have maybe gotten into the dinner rotation but we were pretty happy to walk away with just drinks and desserts.

Expensive and worth it. I had a superb fish - ono - and my partner had the prime rib. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. The tomato-pineapple gazpacho soup was a revelation. We were very sad there was no room for dessert.

Loved this restaurant... Service was great, did was excellent, and loved the entertainment. We ate at the bar because we didn't have a reservation but that was great for us because we had had a late lunch and wanted a lite dinner. Would recommend this place!

A nice fancy restaurant on the coast for a fancy family dinner or romantic evening. The wine pairing menu was excellent.

Every year when my family and I visit Hawaii for Thanksgiving, we have our holiday dinner at Hukilau. So, I can only speak for their Thanksgiving dinner (even though I don't always order turkey). Everything I've ever had is REALLY delicious — from appetizer to main course. The ambience is also really enjoyable if you sit on the patio. However, I'm deducting one-star because the servers are never terribly friendly. Not sure if it's because of the Thanksgiving craziness (the restaurant is always packed) or if they're always like that. All-in-all, a place I'd recommend!

Sept 27th. 15 Sunday my celebration dinner ...not so happy to say the least. Not acknowledged we called for dairy and gluten free menu. When seated we were in the wind and cool area...and I was all dressed up! At least we could see the moon for a minute. Food came and it was not what we expected, Nut covered chicken was very salty, my husband was not happy at all. My fish was over cooked and dry. When the bill arrived the waiters added the salad that was part of my dinner. Over all not the best time ever at the restaurant..we will not be back most likely...and will make sure to tell more people about the poor service and food..for spending $81.77 it was not a great start to my birthday...I could have made so many more good choices for my special day.

After a week of eating at excellent restaurants on Maui and Kauai, Hukilau Lanai impressed us as one of the best. The service was fantastic (friendly and knowledgeable server with ample support while she was busy), the view of the resort and water was pleasing, and most of all, the food was very tasty at a reasonable price (ie, less than most nice restaurants on the island). I enjoyed the chef's menu (5-course meal with desert ... a crazy good deal at $32, but only available from 5-5:45pm) and my wife had the mac nut encrusted chicken with the Wally salad (yummy papaya dressing). Aside from a bit of a wait for the entrees and the Ono being slightly overcooked, the dishes were inventive, well presented, and a taste treat. We really enjoyed the unique plays on some traditional items, my personal favorite being the gazpacho with pineapple and sorbet (what an interesting combo), and for anyone a bit tired of the same old poke and ahi, get the candied ahi, it is one of the best appetizers I have ever had - our server said she would eat it for her meal every day if she could, and she wasn't kidding. This restaurant is definitely worth a stop while visiting Kauai - easily accessible for anyone staying near Lihui or on the north shore alike.

If you're in for an upscale dining experience, this is the place to go. Dress up a bit, make a reservation, and be prepared to be pleased by everything from beginning to end. By the end of our meal I felt that we made friends with our server, been filled with TOP quality, fresh food, great desserts, and the wine recommend from our waiter was exactly what we were after. The views were fine, although the restaurant is set far back from the ocean so it's a little blip through the trees. But you don't come to a restaurant for the view. You come for the food & experience, and this place had it in spades.
