After a week of eating at excellent restaurants on Maui and Kauai, Hukilau Lanai impressed us as one of the best. The service was fantastic (friendly and knowledgeable server with ample support while she was busy), the view of the resort and water was pleasing, and most of all, the food was very tasty at a reasonable price (ie, less than most nice restaurants on the island). I enjoyed the chef's menu (5-course meal with desert ... a crazy good deal at $32, but only available from 5-5:45pm) and my wife had the mac nut encrusted chicken with the Wally salad (yummy papaya dressing). Aside from a bit of a wait for the entrees and the Ono being slightly overcooked, the dishes were inventive, well presented, and a taste treat. We really enjoyed the unique plays on some traditional items, my personal favorite being the gazpacho with pineapple and sorbet (what an interesting combo), and for anyone a bit tired of the same old poke and ahi, get the candied ahi, it is one of the best appetizers I have ever had - our server said she would eat it for her meal every day if she could, and she wasn't kidding. This restaurant is definitely worth a stop while visiting Kauai - easily accessible for anyone staying near Lihui or on the north shore alike.

Hukilau Lanai is known here on the island for great food, great service, great live music and a great value. Every meal that I have had here has been absolutely delicious. The service is always friendly and attentive. The knowledgeable wait staff will gladly give you menu and wine recommendations. The restaurant overlooks the resort's garden and pool with the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Both locals and tourists come here for dinner. I've never met a local that does not highly recommend this place (which means a lot on this island). The portions are generous. Compared to the other fine dining restaurants on Kauai, when you order an entree here, it includes a mixed green salad as part of the meal. The prices are not as expensive as other Kauai resort area restaurant prices for what is being served. Hukilau tries to use as much fresh local Kauai ingredients as possible. You cannot go wrong with any of these signature Hukilau choices: Starters - Poke Nachos, Sweet Potato Ravioli, Wally Salad, Lobster Curry Bisque, or BBQ ribs, Entrees - Fresh Fish of the day (a nice, thick filet), Prime Rib (the locals love this!), or Hukilau Mixed Grill (fresh catch of the day and prawns). The one and only dessert that I have had here is the delicious "to die for" Mac Nut (buttery) tart with house made cinnamon ice cream.

While the fish in their mixed grill was of excellent quality, it was prepared with far too much sweetener (pineapple, sugar, etc), completely overpowering the natural savoryness. Similarly, several of their cocktails were far too sweet, and even the options from the bittersweet section tasted as if they were drowned in simple syrup. If you like sugar, it's a good location, but don't expect more than that.

POKE NACHOS! All the food was super delicious and reasonably priced. Entrees come with a soup or salad. Staff timed the pace of the meal perfectly and was friendly. Hot and dirty martini is my new favorite drink!

If you're in for an upscale dining experience, this is the place to go. Dress up a bit, make a reservation, and be prepared to be pleased by everything from beginning to end. By the end of our meal I felt that we made friends with our server, been filled with TOP quality, fresh food, great desserts, and the wine recommend from our waiter was exactly what we were after. The views were fine, although the restaurant is set far back from the ocean so it's a little blip through the trees. But you don't come to a restaurant for the view. You come for the food & experience, and this place had it in spades.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Hukilau. Not only was the location amazing, everything about this place was great. The staff was very helpful and made it easy to plan our wedding virtually. Our friends and family were impressed and the food got great reviews.

This restaurant has a nice ambience in the evening overlooking the courtyard of the timeshare property. The service was good, waited 35 minutes between soup and entree but other than that it was top notch. I had the prime rib and can't say enough good things about it, Perfect!
