Oldest portrait PHOTO in the world. Taken in 1839, the woman was the photographer's sister.

Tracey Emin's work entitled: BED.
It was shorted listed for the Turner Prize in 1999.  It consists of the artist's unmade bed, along with other items from her bedroom such as condoms and, a pair of knickers with menstrual period stains.

Is this art? The experts think so. What do you think?

I'm looking forward to this being installed in a museum where they fail to inform the janitor of its status as an art work.

What do you think. Do you think Picasso deserves to be as famous as Leonardo Da Vinci? Do modern artists have as many skills as the Masters of the olden days?

Is it about skills? Or mastery of their vision, influence/reflection on society? Fame is a tricky thing to justify. Fame isn't as important an indicator of anything really, except that many people know of something. Da Vinci was clearly a genius of many things. Picasso is a genius too. They are so different,  their purpose so different, one should not compare.

Introduction
Neil Collins MA LLB Editor of www.visual-arts-cork.com

Thirty thousand years ago, on the edge of the Massif Central in southern France, an unknown man began drawing pictures on the walls and ceilings of his cave, and so became the world's first ever artist. Who he was, or what his aims were, remains a complete mystery. Thus began the history of world art, a history which is full of amazing characters, unforgettable paintings and beautiful sculpture.

We hope you enjoy reading about it.

www.visual-arts-cork.com attracts more than 20 million visitors a year. It is recommended and supported by art institutions, teachers and students throughout North America, Britain and the rest of the English speaking world.
