Keep hearing from people that Bird was overrated ,not a good defender, just a shooter. Well read up.....
In the words of someone else :
"The man was a consummate winner...
Bird and Oscar are the only players in NBA history to lead their teams in ppg, rpg, apg, spg for at least 92% of their careers. Put that into perspective. Bird, Oscar, West, Jabbar,Havlicek are the ONLY 5 players in history to have at least 20,000pts, 8,000 rebounds, and 5,000 assists...Some have just above or way above these numbers.Bird has the shortest career on that list by 4 years.
He is 5th all time in Triple Doubles(and his triple doubles weren't backdoor triple doubles like Jason Kidds...Bird's TD's read something like 39/15/11....
Bird was 84th all time defensive rating..Bird: 84th Bryant 241,MJ 133, Pippen 90, Magic 221, Lebron 117...the media didn't recognize bird's D. Bird did all of these things WITH a team loaded with HOFers which makes it even more impressive.
Michael Jordan has Bird on his all time fantasy team"
Pat Riley said:
"If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game I'd choose Michael Jordan; If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life...I'd take Larry Bird."
During an interview Michael Jordan was asked : Who would you chose to take the final shot other than yourself?
Before the interviewer could finish the question, and without hesitation MJ said "...Bird"
" I had nightmares of Larry Bird since he beat so many times in the playoffs." -Jordan
"The only man I ever feared...was Larry Bird, b/c if you keep it close, and you have no cushion in terms of a lead....Larry Bird can win that Damn game. LOL" -Magic Johnson
