Dear SVL Cultura Ambassadors,
We invite you to support one of our fellow Cultura Ambassadors, Pepe Gomez and join him at the First Tee Golf of Silicon Valley 2016 Open!
The First Tee of Silicon Valley 2016 Open is the annual fundraising tournament presented by EY, is on Friday, July 29th at Cinnabar Hills Golf Course. Each year, the Open raises a significant amount of our $850,000 operating budget. We draw 150+ golfers from all across Silicon Valley in support of youth development through golf. We hope you will join us as a player, sponsor, or donor this year.
The Open includes 18 holes of golf with many fun contests along the way, dinner, and a high-end raffle during our program. We would like to get confirmation from those Silicon Valley Latino Cultura Ambassadors interested to play so we can buy 1 or more foursomes ($300 per player), if you or your company can become a hole sponsor the cost is $2,000 and includes a foursome
This is our 11th year of positively impacting the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. We offer classes throughout Silicon Valley, from East San Jose to Palo Alto to Gilroy. In 2015, we reached over 10,000 youth on our golf courses and in the community, bringing the total number of youth in our program since 2005 to over 45,000. Your support enables us to reach even more youth in more areas
The First Tee of Silicon Valley impacts the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. We do this through six progressive levels – PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle, Ace, and Albatross. Participants learn to appreciate diversity, resolve conflicts, build confidence, and set goals for their future while improving their golf game. Our unique facilities at Rancho del Pueblo Golf Course, a 9-hole course with a driving range and large putting and chipping greens, are located in the heart of East San Jose. This is a highly diverse and underserved community and, based on our location, we have direct access to minority populations. Because of regional socio-economic demographics, we have made affordability a priority. The cost for an 8-week class is just $100 per participant and no child is turned away for an inability to pay. Low income families pay $10 instead of $100. Our 10-year history of success and growth within our community can be largely attributed to the affordability of programs and is further supported by strong partnerships with community groups and schools.
Our programming, which can last up to 12 years, is making an observable impact in the lives of youth who might otherwise be adversely affected by the gangs, drugs and feelings of hopelessness that are so prevalent in this community. The young people we mentor behave better, get better grades, and are healthier than their peers. Our participants demonstrate clear signs that they are acquiring the life skills we teach. For example, all participants know to shake hands while looking others in the eye and to respect themselves, others and their surroundings. Our participants also report good study habits and grades. For example, over 85% of our participants reported earning all A's or B's in school in 2013-2014. The youth we serve are increasingly becoming the high quality young adults we know will succeed in life. Many are already community leaders in their volunteer role as Junior Coach with The First Tee of Silicon Valley. Everybody wins when our experienced participants become role models for the younger ones!
Once again we invite you to support Pepe and The First Tee of Silicon Valley!

Today we wanted to share a rewritten version of what Pastor Martin Niemöller wrote sometime ago when an evil movement took hold of a large nation and eventually the entire world. The poem has been rewritten by Gideon Lichfield by making a call to all of us to (((raise our voices & take action))) to prevent this type of movement from occurring ever again.
Please share your thoughts and actions after reading this poem!
First Trump came for the women
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a woman.

Then Trump came for the people with disabilities
And I did not speak out
Because I did not have a disability.

Then Trump came for the African Americans
And I did not speak out
Because I was not African American.

Then Trump came for the Mexicans
And I did not speak out
Because I was not Mexican.

Then Trump came for the Muslims
And I did not speak out
Because I was not Muslim.

Then Trump came for the gay, bi, and trans people
And I did not speak out
Because I was not gay, bi or trans.*

Then Trump came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew.**

Then Trump came for the journalists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a journalist.*

Then Trump came for the judges
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a judge.

And now Trump is coming for the Constitution of the United States
And if I do not speak out, what am I?
