Contest Theme
Mahatma Gandhi’s unique way of organisning protests, which originated in Africa has not only won freedom from colonialism for the world’s masses, but also inspired leaders across the world to embrace peaceful protests against oppression and misrule. The influence of his
philosophy of non-violence is visible in all political movements since the beginning of the 20th century. The vision of freedom he envisaged, has inspired the world’s masses to rise up aganist any attempts by ‘authorities’ to curtail people’s free will. From Nelson Mandela to Martin Luther King, he has taught the world’s greatest leaders to give change a chance, and demonstrate the infinitesimal strength of non-violence to upturn injustice.

In October, 2012, the world is celebrating the 143-rd birth anniversary of the great statesman. You are required to create a poster that portrays the influence of Gandhi’s philosophy on the
protesters at Tahrir Square, the world’s most recent peaceful demonstration that brought down an era of oppression in Egypt.

Eligible Participants
Individuals of African and Indian nationalities.

Awards
Best entries win
1st prize: US$ 500
2nd prize: US$ 325
3rd prize: US$ 165

Rules of Participation
Eligibility
• Participation is open to individuals only of African and Indian nationalites.
Technical Criteria
• All artworks to be prepared at 300dpi actual size - A2 International Size
(510mm height x 420mm width) portrait/tall format.
The file format should be PDF or JPEG.
• An entry (inclusive of all files submitted) should not exceed 10 MBs.
• The design entry must be accompanied by a concise concept note any language of your
choice, not exceeding 500 words. The note must explain the thought behind the artwork.
• The designs entries should not be marked with any form of identification (name, logo, etc.).
Entries will be disqualified if they are marked.
• The submitted work must not contain material offensive to any particular community, group,
individual or institution.
• Images used for the posters must not violate copyright laws.
• Elements taken from free sources must be acknowledged in the submission.
• Submitted entries must be original and not published earlier.
• Entries submitted previously in other competitions.will not be considered eligible for entry
and will face immediate disqualification.
• Entries that have previously been awarded at other competitions will not be considered
eligible for entry and will face immediate disqualification.
• All submissions must carry an accompanying Letter of Acknowledgement, giving credit to
information sources, image resources etc., wherever applicable.

MEET THE TOP 50 INDIAFRICA BUSINESS VENTURE WINNERS

Pratyush is a B. Tech. graduate (Electrical Engineering, 2005-09) from Thapar University, Punjab. His interest in solar and energy-efficiency developed when he joined a start-up dealing in this space. Working under Business Development role, he had to work a lot in the field – here he interacted with manufacturers, dealers and end consumers (urban and rural poor). It helped him understand the challenges faced and pain-points of several stake-holders in the entire value chain of delivering decentralized power generating units to the poor. In personal life, his interests include swimming, running and gaming. He also speaks fluent German, Bahasa and Malay.

Neha Kelkar is an Electrical Engineer by profession. She has completed her Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering with specialization in Power Electronics, from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta USA. She is currently pursuing her MBA (Post Graduate Program in Management) from the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, India.
Prior to joining ISB, Neha has worked with John Deere India Pvt. Ltd. Pune and GE India Technology Centre in Bengaluru.
Neha is an avid reader and loves trekking and swimming. She can speak fluent German and is now learning Mandarin Chinese.

Chukwunonso Daniel Ogbe is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, and a lawyer by profession. He is currently a postgraduate student of Comparative Law at the University of Delhi, India. He has to his credit a published book entitled: “The Dilemma of Nigerian Youths” and enjoys reading and writing as his hobbies. Chukwunonso is passionate about the empowerment of Nigerian youths, through the creation of entrepreneurial opportunities for them.

INDIAFRICA: A Shared Future's featured Entrepreneur - Rustam Sengupta's Organization Boond Foundation is competing in UN Women's Project Inspire Competition.
Their project: To facilitate women entrepreneurs in rural Rajasthan, India, to educate and sell hygiene products through a mobile application.
