On holiday, but I couldn't help spotting this article about Ubuntu on the bq M10 on El País, the highest-circulation daily newspaper in Spain.

It's been great to have Jean-Baptiste from VLC at the snappy sprint this week, giving the Engineering team guidance and feedback from an upstream POV using the VLC snap as a reference. Good work everyone!
+Jean-Baptiste Kempf's lightning talk at the snappy Heidelberg sprint showed some impressive figures on VLC adoption, and where the VLC snap will help across Linux distributions  #snappysprint

Here's another great example of snapping software once and it automagically making its way to multiple distros. What was originally the Ubuntu phone's clock app now running on Arch, with GNOME Shell. Thanks Jose Manuel González for sharing it!

For a bit of after work fun, I updated the clock app's snap to run both in Unity 7 and Unity 8, making it a step closer to easily install the core apps in classic and convergent desktops. And one snap to rule them all, as soon as the phone and tablet get snap support :)

Thanks to everyone who continues contributing to the playpen each week.

Packaging apps has never been easier, and the fact that in a few days we have got a diverse range of snaps covering go, nodejs, gtk, qt, java and many more technologies and build systems is the living example of how the snap format can easily support each one of them.

Good work everyone!
With over 40 real-world snap examples and growing, the Snappy playpen is the place to go when starting with your first snap.

We've recently added tags to make it easy to find code samples that match your project, and it's never been easier to snap and distribute apps, regardless of technology and build system: check out the playpen for examples on nodejs, java, python3, gtk2/3, qt4/5, autootools, cmake, qmake, grunt, qml, ant... and more!

Kudos to +Popescu Sorin for pioneering the usage of Unity 8 on the desktop daily. A couple of hours a day make wonders to showcase progress, give feedback and highlight issues.
surprisingly Unity8 is almost usable on desktop :D (no joke) i am actually using it daily (for a couple of hours) gg

It's already available for pre-order in print, epub and a discount combo pack.

Kudos to the QOwnNotes team for joining to the snappy playpen and proposing their snap. It finally has made it to their repo, the store and they're setting up automated builds for a smooth release process.
The QOwnNotes team, with their OwnCloud-enabled markdown editor go for the hat trick: available in the store, snapcraft.yaml in their repo, and automated snap builds! http://www.qownnotes.org

Quassel IRC now available on your Ubuntu phones :)
Distributed cross-platform IRC client
You can use this client on your Ubuntu device to connect to a Quassel core running on a server. See also http://bugs.quassel-irc.org/projects/quassel-irc/wiki

Note: Right now connecting to IRC from the client without connecting to a core is not supported.
