Do you know the importance of setting goals? Maybe like me, you made a New Years resolution, have you kept it or do you just think they are old clichés that don’t really matter?

Life goals are always spoken about at the beginning of a new year, but these goals should be short-term goals which parachute you to reach your lifelong goals and dreams.

If you were to understand the importance of setting goals I know you will accomplish so much more in your life because I do.

I found myself trapped in a negative mindset, letting go of something I had held fast to for many years was difficult, it was as if I knew how to feel sad, miserable and afraid, the change was frightening.

I was a deliberate pessimistic, I felt guilty if I felt happy.

Fear and hurt were what I had become accustomed too and I had lived my life on adrenaline for so much of my life that once I had escaped the abusive relationship, I didn’t know how to cope with life away from someone controlling me.

I had been a puppet on a string for 11 years, longer if you look back to my childhood, being raised by an angry alcoholic father, I had become a submissive to domineering men.

Whether it’s to buy those 6-inch heels or that dress with the sparkly brooch, we all have to make decisions.

Many adults find it difficult taking responsibility for their actions, why is that?

Why is making choices and the right decisions so difficult?

And when things go wrong, why don’t we accept we are to blame?

Making the choice of whether to apply for a new job, to expand the family and have a new baby or even to buy a house, some choices are more important than others.

I want a better life for myself and for my children and I have learned a very valuable lesson that I want to share with you today. It has taken me 5 years to reach this point in my life where I know I hold the key to my own happiness.

Don’t waste time placing blame onto others, accept there are some things in life you can not change, like your past but if you want to make your life better than you have to make changes and be prepared to carry them through and work hard.

I have yet to meet anyone who is truly happy, there is always something we want to improve, we as humans strive to be the best we can be and I think we should be doing just that, obstacles may well be in the way and while they can slow us down, they don’t stop us.

Of all the New Years Resolutions made, to be happy is at the top of that list. You are in charge of your own happiness and I am going to teach you how you can be happy because you deserve happiness.

These 5 things that we all do are the ones holding you back. Once you accept that you are doing them and start to address them you will feel a weight being lifted from your shoulders.

Life can force you to rebuild your life and make you have to start all over again. I found myself at a crossroads only a year and a half ago when my second marriage broke down.

After eighteen years of being someone’s wife, (10 years in my first marriage, 6 months of being alone to 8 years with my second husband), I found myself lost, alone and a single mother to six children.

The fear of being on my own and how I was going to cope alone could have paralyzed me, it would have been so easy to have fallen into a deep depression.

I speak with hundreds of mothers each day and many feel a failure because, well because of so many reasons.

I am fully qualified for the feelings of failure.

I personally relate to the responses I received when I reached out the mothers on my support group and asked them why they felt failures as a mother.

I certainly know I am not alone in my feelings.

When everything in life seems to be going wrong, take one look at what you did right (your kids), to remind yourself it was all worth it. We all have those days when everything feels just too much when no matter what we do, we feel its just not enough.

It’s during these dark moments that we feel failures but it’s during these times that we need to look at the things we did get right, our children.

I run a support group for mothers on Facebook and face a daily tirade of problems and demons that mothers face and the strength and courage these women possess is beyond words, fighting their own battles yet supporting others having a difficult time.

Are you allowing negative thoughts to control your life? Don’t worry, we all fall victim to this destructive way of thinking. Let me show you how to simply eliminate them.

I often find myself in situations I do not wish to be in and while we cannot control everything and everyone around us, anxiety can be reduced when facing stressful situations by challenging the destructive thoughts that arise.

Your babies are now old enough to be left home alone. While they may feel confident and ready for this next step, you’re understandably nervous. Fortunately, though, there are plenty of tools you can use to make sure your kids are safe and secure when they’re home and you’re not.
