I'm collaborating with TrialReach to develop the most comprehensive listing of #multiplesclerosis  clinical trials worldwide for the MS Discovery Forum (msdiscovery.org). This should be an interesting hangout.
Join us for our first #TRExpertSession Google Hangout on the latest developments in MS research and trials. Our guests will be Dr. Valentina Fossati from the New York Stem Cell Foundation (@nyscf) and Jeri Butchell (@FingoHead), an MS patient, activist and clinical trial advocate. Follow the discussion and ask questions on Twitter using the hashtag #TRExpertSession

Dr. Fossati  leads a research team at the NYSCF Laboratory, which is focused on better understanding multiple sclerosis (MS) and finding new therapeutic approaches for the disease. Her interest in the stem cell field goes back to her undergraduate studies, at a time when the concept of regenerative medicine was just emerging as a truly exciting approach to cure diseases. A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2009 shifted her research interest to better understanding this disease and in particular its neurodegenerative component, which is responsible for the irreversible neurological disabilities and therefore represents itself a new target for therapeutic intervention. She will give an overview on the use of stem cells for treating MS and describe the future potential of induced Pluripotent Stem Cells.

Jeri Burtchell was diagnosed with relapsing MS in 1999. She joined the TRANSFORMS trial for Gilenya in 2007. That experience inspired Jeri to start www.PartnersinResearch.org to show the patient side of MS research and encourage others to get involved because without volunteers there can be no cure. She speaks to researchers around the country advocating for more patient-friendly trial design. Jeri writes the weekly MS News article for Healthline.com and lives with her multi-generational family in Florida. She will share her story and talk about the process that she went through to make a decision to join the trial.

Laura Helmuth has written the best piece yet on the Bora Zivkovic events. Worth a read by science writers especially, but also by anyone in any profession where power imbalances can lead to sexual harassment.

Graffiti gangs of high-energy physicists are apparently roaming the East Bay near San Francisco. Dig the Bohr atom logo next to "Higgs." Observed Sunday, 2/17 from the Iron Horse Trail in Concord, CA.

If you're a scientist, these are good for a laugh.

Fun twitter meme under #overlyhonestmethods. Scary how often some of these quips are true in some fields...

Being antivax isn't an opinion. It's just wrong.

People are entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts.

Don't confuse the two. Being antiscience isn't an opinion. It's wrong.

The only thing illustrated in this video that hasn't actually happened to me as a recipient of pitches is the sneaking into the office part. (My dog would have something to day about that!)

Discovered: the original Star Trek series was apparently the source of that 80s rap music fad of wearing Mercedes hood ornaments as necklaces.

To the shock of most sentient beings, Facts died Wednesday, April 18, after a long battle for relevancy with the 24-hour news cycle, blogs and the Internet. Though few expected Facts to pull out of its years-long downward spiral, the official cause of death was from injuries suffered last week when Florida Republican Rep. Allen West steadfastly declared that as many as 81 of his fellow members of theU.S. House of Representatives are communists.
