I don't see how Amazon is going to make up the 30% on the back-end. This is probably a "get your content here" play rather than something that's purely financial. But it still seems both rush and ill advised overall.

Is ComiXology in serious trouble? As someone who's only purchased a handful of comics on the platform (but did take advantage of the free $5.00 to help subsidize a Hawkeye vol. 1 purchase), I'm not certain. But the reviews do seem almost universally negative.

Here we turn to +Rally Vincent for his thoughts…
We recently reported on the drastic changes made to the iOS version of the ComiXology store, removing the ability for users to make purchases directly

It's an easy way for amazon to test the waters of forcing all purchases on the website. Since they just bought comixology they have less vested in it so it makes a good testbed.

The problem is, people love to browse and buy where they're gonna read. I've got dollars to donuts they roll this one back, especially if their phone doesn't fly.

Stumbled upon this nifty looking utility when reading the latest edition of The Setup. Looks promising: mosh.mit.edu

I looked at mosh a few times, but was always concerned about actually getting it built and installed in userspace: Well, over the weekend I found it's not that bad. If you have to drag in ncurses it gets a little interesting, but I got it installed in userspace on two boxes without issue.

+JuiceSSH  (Android) has mosh support and over the weekend ironed out a few wrinkles in their implementation, so I'll probably leave it on my personal server just for connecting from my mobile devices.

That being said: There's no ProxyCommand support so automatically tunneling through gateway boxes doesn't work yet, and that's a PITA for a lot of what I do with SSH; if I don't have my .ssh/config, with aliases, ProxyCommands, and automatic port forwarding, I'm a cranky man.

So here's a random question. For those keeping track of their dotfiles in a DVCS repo, how do you handle common configs across multiple computers?

As is the custom, I keep a git branch for each of my systems (home, work, etc) with master containing settings and files common to all machines. But this brings its own issues, namely that distributing changes to common files like .vimrc across branches becomes relatively painful: commit to my branch, checkout master, git cherry-pick the change, checkout other branches as necessary, merge master. All just to add or remove a single setting.

Just curious if other folks have had this problem and how they've solved it.

I don't do this nearly enough. Good advice.
I've been trying out an experiment over the past few workdays: when someone asks me for help with something, I show them how it's done. In an on-call case, it means copying and pasting the console transcript, cleaning it up a bit, and adding some descriptive comments.

Seriously considering picking up the new Paperwhite. Hive Mind: Is it worth replacing the kindle app on my Nexus 7 and/or iPad?

Anyone around these parts using pinboard? I'm looking for an OS and device agnostic bookmarking service a la delicious, but with less fluff.

Well look at that.  In a mere week since I posted my snarkful reply, I've had the desire to bookmark 2 things!

I will say, mandatory hours of operation for a barbecue joint are indeed: "until we run out."

I stood in line for like 30 minutes in. 60% humidity, and it was totally worth it.

After my kiddos broke off an RCA plug in the back of my subwoofer, I needed to take it into a professional. Dave was very friendly and knowledgeable; he diagnosed another issue I was having with the sub, and was able to get everything fixed within a couple of days. I'll definitely be back for any other A/V related issues in the future.
