I enjoy finding leadership lessons in unlikely places. In this case, it's director +Christopher Nolan on the latest Batman movie. It's important for a leader to let the team's talents show through and not obscure them:

"We want this to be the most exciting, emotionally engaging, and enjoyable blockbuster an audience can see this summer. I'm happy with it. It's the film I wanted to make. I look at what everyone has done, and I think they've done a good job. [Laughs] And I think I've done a good job of not obscuring it."

Running hundreds of business experiments as the way to get more from your organization's data. There's a lot of promise in this approach if you have an environment where it will work. The key upside is the ability to distinguish causation from mere correlation.
Virginia Postrel originally shared:

It didn't come up in my column on Amazon and the book industry (which quoted some of +Erik Brynjolfsson's other work), but this is why I really think Amazon is more likely to get book prices right the publishing industry: They have more data on customer behavior and more skill at using it.
For centuries, breakthroughs in innovation rely on breakthroughs in collecting and measuring data. That should make us optimistic.

More on how college athletics is all-corrupting. I'm ready to move on to a world where college athletics no longer exists.

The way an infographic should be done. What a stunning amount of visual information this is conveying. One thing that comes through here that rarely does elsewhere is the scale of the numbers -- economic size, debt:gdp ratio, and sovereign debt composition -- as compared across countries. I'm very impressed.

What's really scary is China has an unknown debt to GDP ratio. Also, you can't tell how much debt is owed to others. Japan is just in a lot of trouble. They apparently owe a lot of money to themselves (bonds?)

Multiple infractions... 3D, unnecessary shading, and worst of all, monkeying with the axis to create trends.

Sigh.....I thought this was about cleaning up the median value in a distribution. I don't know what that would mean, but it would be an interesting read.

Good primer on the Euro crisis.
Tim Harford originally shared:

Will the Euro have broken up by the end of January? The Economist reports: "In the last week of January, Italy must refinance more than €30 billion ($40 billion) of bonds. If the markets balk, and the ECB refuses to blink, the world’s third-biggest sovereign borrower could be pushed into default."
EVEN as the euro zone hurtles towards a crash, most people are assuming that, in the end, European leaders will do whatever it takes to save the single currency.
