Unsurprisingly, young Republicans remain in as much denial as their older counterparts. Until gender and ethnic inequality is erased in both wage and occupational opportunities -- which, by the way, was created by the 200+ years of institutional advantages for white males -- admission programs like UC Berkley's are necessary to ensure fair market competition.
I don't want to denigrate the incredible community response to friends and neighbors in need in the aftermath of Irene, or any of the other natural disasters that have impacted the U.S. in the past few months. But I have to ask: what are the corporations, who say we don't need government to solve all our problems, doing with their billions in tax savings to provide aid in this time of crisis?
