SpaceX is hiring Software Engineer in Ion Propulsion team.
Job duties are UI + backend of Plasma Engine simulation!
- first goal is to build micro satellites and make $ :)
- long goal is making fly to the Mars cheaper ;)

Biggest Ion Drive Ever Will Push SpaceX to Mars
Exhibit A: SpaceX is hiring Ion Propulsion engineers.
They are going to make tiny satlets that burn up in less than a year. They will have no built in propulsion. So what's the Ion Drive for?

Exhibit B: Gwynne Shotwell Says So:
Q: "To power something for eight months and presumably to turn around at some point and get these people back home you must be looking at some sort of renewable fuel?"

A: "We are looking at solar electric propulsion. I think we are going to look at some other interesting in-space propulsion technologies. But our lift off both from the surface of mars as well as earth with be lox and methane"

Exhibit C: Elon to  Mars in 3 months:
"The verdict is in in terms of long term existence in space. Really mostly about zero G. ... (Define long term please)... Mars is, if you have a low energy trajectory, like a minimum entry trajectory, its about 6 months. And I think that can be compressed down to about three months. It gets exponentially harder as you go lower than that. Three to four. Its important for it to be at that level because then you can send your spaceship to mars and bring it back on the same orbital synchronization. Earth and Mars sync up every two years. And then they are only kind of in sync for about six months. So you've got to be able to go there and back in one go. That's important to making the cost to go to mars an affordable amount."

Conclusion:
With a Mars Colonization Vehicle sized to fit a rocket with a ten meter core or larger, SpaceX will need the most energy dense Ion Drive every made to reduce its travel time from 8 months to 3 on a Mars trip. Imagine the MCT with thrusters ablaze all the way to Mars, just like The Enterprise.

#Simon Manning "hot enough" is really hard to get to. The ion plazma is much easy to reach and manage than fusion plazma. Why don't play with ion plazma first?!

A Knowledge Navigator - remarkable vision of personal computer from Apple back in 1987. Now 30 years later you can check how good prediction was.
Note,
- this vision had nothing about regular people life. Same story as the predictions we see today.
- John Sculley has a good point, a fly to the moon is necessary to accelerate creative progress.

Remember the ISS Virtual Tour made using panoramic images taken by ESA astronaut +Samantha Cristoforetti during her recent spaceflight? The tour has now been expanded to include the Russian segment - go investigate! http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Human_Spaceflight/International_Space_Station/Highlights/International_Space_Station_panoramic_tour

Want to help improve the tour - find out how: http://blogs.esa.int/rocketscience/2015/08/27/improve-the-space-station-tour/

Good article on bias in data science research and statistical analysis particular. It has hands on visual demonstration of the issue. #datascience #statistics
If you follow the headlines, your confidence in science may have taken a hit lately. Peer review? More like self-review. An investigation in November uncovered a scam in which researchers were rubber-stamping their own work, circumventing peer review at five high-profile publishers.

A fresh detective story on real IT engineering problem. Almost as fascinating as space rocket issue with promising final! Have an enjoyable reading...
It looked just like another page in the middle of the night. One of the servers of our search API stopped processing the indexing jobs for an unknown reason. Since we build systems in Algolia for high availability and resiliency, nothing bad was happening. The new API calls were correctly redirecte
