Susan McPherson might tell you I never quite asked her that question before I volunteered that she and I could do that at the Business4Better conference, but in the end Susan proved that she can tweet and talk and share a wealth of information about CSR at the same time.Although someone’s suggestion that we chew gum as well didn’t make the cut.

Another first we attempted was turning the tables on Susan to make her the guest rather than host of #CSRchat, the Twitter chat she founded and has run for the last three years.

Here is our chat/interview...

ClimateRide and Mightybytes are now partnered in deep ways. Frick’s company rebuilt ClimateRide’s web site and applied its expertise in digital marketing. With FourSquare applications, a slicker site design and other tactics, the group, which shares profits with 50 to 60 environmental and bike-related, had 70% of web sites visitors donate.

Harley Davidson is a company that embraces these ideals. “The minute you walk into Harley Davidson headquarters, the parking lot is overflowing with Harleys, the building smells like leather and the company keeps the connection to the world around them. There is an authenticity. We are them and they are us,” said Patnaik.

Neil Bush, chairman of Points of Light, promoted volunteerism at the Business4Better Conference last week in Anaheim.

"Youth volunteering and engagement is on the rise. The number of youth who volunteer has grown from 13 percent of the population to 22 percent of the population since Points of Light was founded." -- Kelley Damore, UBM Tech Chief Community Officer

Sonic was the first corporate partner of DonorsChoose.org to use the site’s API (application programming interface) to create a separate micro-site, said Kirk Smiley, senior director of the nonprofit. The site, called Limeades for Learning, allows Sonic customers and others to vote for public school teacher projects they want Sonic to fund.

Introduction
Creating Successful Corporate and Non-Profit Partnerships

Businesses of all sizes and types are moving from “passive” giving to becoming “active” contributors to the world around them. At the same time, nonprofits’ traditional development and fundraising programs are simply not enough in an unsure economy. Nonprofit leaders must explore creative programs and develop win-win strategic partnerships with businesses.

To bring these two groups together and define and activate mutually beneficial partnerships, UBM is launching Business4Better (B4B).
Modeled after very successful forums UBM has held in Brazil, India and the United Kingdom, Business4Better will enable nonprofits and corporations to:
  • develop smart, high-impact business practices
  • apply planning and measurements to their programs
  • demonstrate the impact partnerships have on their mission, partners and the communities they serve
  • align core competencies, interests and goals
  • simultaneously support corporate and nonprofit markets and the local and global communities in which we work and live.
