Another fritillary gem, so delicate.

"Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."

Covers a lot of the Scout Law

Boys Scouts (finally)  end Bigotry: Robert Gates does it again.

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/breaking_in_historic_vote_boy_scouts_elect_to_end_ban_on_gay_adult_scout_leaders

The irony is one of 2 main Scouting Founders was Gay and a cross Dresser.

And He, Baden- Powell, was the one who imbued it with military and religiousity overtones. Its a shame he screwed it up.
( According to Hitchens , He was also a Hitler-lover )

Ernest Seton's  original  Cooperative , environmentalist , pro-native , vision of the Woodcraft Indians
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodcraft_Indians
is so much more appealing than the churchie,  Jr soldiers of Powell.

#Queerculture

EDIT: Man, I spoke too soon.
" Chartered organizations will continue to select their adult leaders, and religious chartered organizations may continue to use religious beliefs as criteria for selecting adult leaders, including matters of sexuality. "

Well fuck that. The vast majority of all Troops are sponsored at and by Churches.

Its the official Mormon Youth program

" ...This change allows Scouting's members and parents to select local units, chartered to organizations with similar beliefs, that best meet the needs of their families. This change also respects the right of religious chartered organizations to choose adult volunteer leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their own.  "

It lets the BSA have their Bigotry cake and  still get full public accommodations.

I suppose its a step forward.  But unless its accompanied by massive Policy  statements of inclusion and promotion of  gay acceptance at the National Level, its not enough.

It will just provide a permanent cover to hate. Its not enough to let a few groups not discriminate. The culture at the top must change, so gays wont be discriminated against in practice .

I'm aware of it and know that it is one of the few quality music events the Commonwealth has, but I haven't actually made it to one.

In grim, historical, industrial Lowell MA is in its 29th year of the greatest free music festival in the US, the Lowell Folk Festival. Consider the John Berberian Ensemble (Armenia), the Fairfield Four (gospel) and Leroy Thomas (zydeco). http://lowellfolkfestival.org/

We're awaiting the influx of bumblebees that invariably arrive when all the perennial herbs are in bloom. The oregano was first this season and the honeybees have pounced first.

Like an Impressionist miniature, my grandfather's 1918 snap of French farmers reaping is a period gem. He snuck off from rural Maryland to join the American Expeditionary Force before the U.S. declared war.

When our washer was sick, we headed down the hill. What a nice, efficient, helpful owner. Plus, the large machines handled huge amounts, got them clean and fresh, and quickly (30 minutes for the 50 pounders). Now, I would love to have that kind of washing power at home. I recommend this place.
