My wife and I have just returned from our stay at the 414 in New York. We absolutely loved it. The hotel has got a really homely feel to it. As soon as we stepped into the hotel we were given a very warm welcome by Drew .. great guy. The following day we met Strawberry (yes that's her real name) and she was just as nice. It turns out all of the staff and the owners are genuinely nice people who care about your stay. Location-wise it's just right ... near enough to the action (e.g. Times Square) to walk there, but far enough away to make it quiet at night. And being mid-town Manhattan, you're central for travelling to all of the New York boroughs. We stayed in a room in the separate building behind the main building ... very quiet at night! It seems that the 414 also has a bit of a rare jewel for New York ... a quiet courtyard at the back of the main building .. lovely to sit and have breakfast there. Whilst we were there, NY experienced a bit of a heatwave, but the air conditioning worked fine. We're new to NY so we had a lot of questions and the staff were always glad to help and were a wealth of knowledge. If and when we go back to NY, we'll be heading to the 414 again.

Charming hotel on a surprisingly quiet street in a great location -- I'm sitting on the bench in front as I type this. Short walk to theater and subway., and genuinely friendly staff.

I was very happy to find a small, intimate place to stay on a relatively quiet street - yet so close to Broadway/Times Square/etc. The staff was consistently friendly & accommodating. This was my first time staying in NYC, and the room wasn't anywhere as tiny/claustrophobic as I've always heard about NYC hotel rooms. The A/C struggled to maintain a decent sleeping temperature - set it to <70 degrees, but I doubt the room ever dropped below 72-73. This was in July. Not the end of the world, it's about the only quibble I had w. our stay.

We're so glad you found us, Robert! Thank you for choosing to stay here, and I'm very happy to hear that your room was spacious and the staff took great care of you. I'm very sorry if your room didn't get as cool as you would have liked, and I hope you let the front desk know that you were having an issue. I'd love to welcome you back again someday to perfect your experience! All the best, Susan Yates, General Manager

Nice place. Definitely my preferred hotel in Manhattan. It was (relatively speaking) inexpensive, the room was nice, the staff pleasant, and the location unbeatable. A five minute walk puts you into Times Square, there are places to eat and grab food nearby, and there's a dry cleaner with same day service a couple doors down.

Thanks for this great review, Eric, and we're honored to be your preferred hotel. I hope you'll be back to see us again soon, and if there's anything I can do to make your next stay perfect, I'm all ears! Best, Susan Yates, General Manager

great locale, we lived nearby, so all family would always stay & loved the area. clean, welcoming, and has everything for the right price. all main stuff on doorstep, but also close to boat tours & west side walks on river. just as easy access to Tsq, theatre, restaurant row & more
