I love playing catch. I love the slap of a leather ball into a leather mitt, especially early in the spring, when things haven't loosened up, but you can see the promise of it all hidden just beneath the surface. There is no more amazing vantage point to watch your sons grow up than in the progression of a game of catch from year to year. - http://killingernest.com/a-good-kind-of-pain/

Did my first live storytelling event last month. It was a blast. And now it's available for posting. If you like cold weather stories about Alaska and wild animals, this might be for you. - https://soundcloud.com/chirpradio/first-time-first-chance-tim-akimoff

I used to love this MXPX song, "Teenage Politics." Back when there was a lot of angst and frustration in the world's general direction. Now I get to watch my kids walk through the same scenarios. But they're actually really good at it. - http://killingernest.com/family-politics/

I made goat curry last night. Perhaps the last great curry. Of course, you can't judge that unless you've had it yourself. Go ahead and try it. - http://killingernest.com/eating-fiji-they-killed-a-goat-for-me/

Let your children walk to or from the park alone. Let them stay home alone. They need this freedom to learn how to make good decisions.

Yes, I have another reason to hate the month of January. But January is good for one thing. Hope. - http://killingernest.com/the-lucky-hat/

I was hesitant to enter this fray. There is too little wiggle room, today, in the distance between freedom of speech and hate speech to effectively define boundaries for either.
But if we're going to look at the Charlie Hebdo tragedy through the lens of sensibility, I think we owe it to ourselves to try and understand a little more about the role of satire in our society and globally, where ideas are not as free to travel.
