We went there on a weeknight. There was a line forming before 5:30. We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away. We asked for the patio. Charming except for an impending thunderstorm. The service was slow considering all the wait staff. I have blood sugar issues and needed btread and juice FAST. We flagged someone down and he brought bread, juice and filled our water glasses. My friend attempted to order a glass of wine, but he said he was not our waiter. Next a different waiter came by and read the specials. We thought he was our waiter but nope, she would be with us in a minute. It turned out to be more like five. When the wine finally did arrive we gave our orders. The food was good just expensive for such tiny portions. But what do I know. Charlies's is one of my favorite hangs. According to my friend, the Baked Alaska was indeed to die for. It was her treat so who was I to complain. I'm glad I went. I just wouldn't go again.

the restaurant is overrated! we heard much about it and decided to try it. the food was nice, but not more than than and definitely below expectations. all of the dishes were OK, nothing was either very good or very bad. the dishes are pretty small. service was also OK. I would not return there.

Ugh. Very overrated. Doughy falafel--what is up with that? They taste more like flour than falafel--uh, they aren't even supposed to contain flour. Did they put flour in those falafel balls? I hope not. Burned vegetables? There is a difference between charred and burned to a crisp. Kinda flavorless, poorly executed and prepared by people inexperienced in Middle Eastern cuisines, especially Persian. I had a Persian mother-in-law and travelled to Iran. Sorry, that is NOT what you are supposed to do with barberries. Pathetic, but it is nearly impossible to find a good Persian restaurant outside of California, so Oleana kinda lived up to my low expectations for Persian. As for the Turkish and the Arab cuisines, why get fake when you can get real Turkish and Arab cuisine in the area? I don't get it. Oleana isn't the only "Middle Eastern" restaurant in the area anymore. And it is time to up it's game.

Food: 4 Decor: 4 Service: 4 Came here for dinner on a weekend night. 1. Whipped Feta with Sweet & Hot Peppers 5 ~Really good. A nice bit of heat that worked really well with our bread. 2. Spinach Falafel, Tahini Sauce, Beet Yogurt & Cress 12 ~Really good. Perfectly seasoned falafel. 3. Vermont Quail Kebob, Baharat Spice, Barberries & Pistachio 13 ~Pretty good. Cooked nicely. 4. Sultan's Delight--Tamarind Beef, Smokey Eggplant Purée & Pinenut 13 ~Delicious. Beef was cooked perfectly, and it went incredibly well with the eggplant puree. 5. Baked Alaska; Coconut Ice Cream & Passion Fruit Caramel 14 ~Okay. I'm not a huge fan of meringue since it tends to be too sweet. This baked alaska was okay, but I only had about half. Service was pretty good, although it would have been nice to get a bit more attention.

We visited Oleana on a balmy Thursday evening and were able to walk in and get seats on the outdoor patio right away! The atmosphere was very comfortable, relaxed, and conversational; the waitstaff was very attentive and friendly and the food was divine! We were a party of 3 and sat at a corner table on the far side of the bench and ordered all Meze portion plates. The menu was a difficult battle as everything looked delicious and very amendable to both vegetarian and meat options. We started with the crab croquette special atop a bed of fresh greens and the summer sangria which was white wine based and very tropical, harboring well balanced peach and pineapple. The sangria had a great balance of fresh fruit sweetness and was very refreshing. Next we fell in love with the Nettle Pie which was doused in a delightful red sauce that we soaked up using the house bread (which was also delicious!). This dish earned our highest recommendation. The Chard Sarma, Sultan's delight and Lamb tart were a great meat filled trio, offering tender delicious meats that were heavily but deliciously spiced. The Octupus Saganaki was a fun presentation with a solid grilled flavor and moist polenta. Finally, the Crudité presented a great selection of fresh, bitter vegetables that we probably should have tackled at the beginning of the meal as we were too full to fully appreciate the black garlic goat cheese. Overall, each dish was packed full of flavor and spices and the entire experience was comfortable and delicious! Finally, the bathroom tiling of mirror on the wall is super cool and worth checking out!

I left the restaurant with mixed feelings. I love the food, but for the price, I'd expect to not be rushed out the door so quickly. Just rude. Most likely won't be coming back here for any special occasions...

Made a reservation about a week in advance and was able to get an early seating on a Sunday, even though this place has been a staple of Inman Square for more than a decade this James Beard award winning restaurant has not slowed down a bit. I have been here well over a dozen times and the service has been impeccable on every experience, never once has there even been a mediocre visit. The menu is seasonal here which helps this place stay fresh. The outdoor seating makes this place perfect for any occasion Rose Sangria - Their sangria is seasonal and while I think the red or white I've had is better than the rose it was still pretty good. Deviled Eggs - On par with some of the best deviled eggs I've ever had Sultan's Delight - This is some of the most tender flavorful beef you have ever had. This appears to be a slow cooked short rib. Only a few bites but you wish it could be your entire meal. These are always on the menu Fried Mussels - Another item that is always on the menu. I've never had such a light and fluffy fried mussel. The fried peppers give the dish a good kick while the yogurt sauce offsets it. Hangar Steak - This item was on special. It was good, very good actually and cooked perfectly but it was a little too boring for me. When dining here it is best to go a little outside your comfort zone. Duck Musakhan - I tried duck for the first time here many moons ago so I'm always willing to try their latest incantation. The duck meat was served on a flat bread with a medley of veggies. Great flavor combination Baked Alaska - The holy grail of Boston desserts. I'm going to go ahead and unofficially crown this Boston's best dessert. The combination of meringue, ice cream and coconut macaroon drizzled with a passion fruit sauce is so much more than the individual components. I have come here to the bar just to have this. It alone is worth the trip.
